whilst sad to hear, not overly surprising TBH.....amazing to think this time last year the kids mindset and future was in a totally better place......Hawthorn definitely dodged a bullet there.....

as for the SDFC, reckon all those folk who worked hard to mentor Garlett last year would be gutted with what has happened over the past 10 months.....can only lead a horse to water etc etc.......

Garlett has been a ticking time bomb for the past couple of years. He was given a 2nd chance and instead of clutching at it he walked away and went down the same path as golden boy Ben. AFL dodged a bullet there.

As for SDFC not looking after their own, believe me when I say this kid doesnt want the clubs help, he is on his own journey and can not be told. I tried to talk sense with him but like any addict some people just won't listen. IMHO SDFC did the right thing. Some things are not negotiable when playing a team sport and unfortunately his passion for footy is/was a lot less than his passion for the high life. Much like Ben has a very long journey in front of him...good luck to him but he really only has the blokes he sees in the mirror to blame.

Is Dale addicted to something that is no good that complicates matters. I still remember him playing full forward at Leederville a couple of years ago absolute sublime talent.

DW.....I assume this bad egg Ben you are talking about is Cousins?....whilst I agree Ben is no role model, at least he had enough discipline to make the most of his onfield gift for playing footy, with over 200 AFL games, a premiership, a Brownlow and numerous club F&B in his CV......sadly Garlett couldn't even last a pre season......

not too sure how these two boys paths are remotely similar TBH.....Cousins on field career, in terms of stats/accolades, is one 95% of past/ present AFL players, will never ever get close to.....though one could easily say the same thing about his off field stats as well!

I agree freezin, I think it would be fair to say cousins made more out of his talent than garlett

Think the families of Cousins and Garlett couldn't care less about what they did or didn't do on a footy field, being a decent citizen is more important than winning a brownlow or kicking wafl goals

Mark Olsen that's the first thing you have said that makes me think you might just be human after all.
