Really not a lot of positives to pull from that. I suppose the fact that they didn't chuck it in and actually won the last quarter was a small consolation. The Swans defence were overwhelmed by the Souths tall marking forwards led by Shaw. Players fumbled the ball in the greasy conditions, made poor decisions to kick across the ground which were often easily turned over by SF mids. So many skill errors, handballing to players under pressure, missing targets by foot. There was one occasion I recall where a Swans player was running pretty much unimpeded towards goal with Warwick Wilson in a one on one contest with his opponent Maskos. The player kicked the ball straight to Maskos as if he was picking him out on a lead. I was close enough to Wilson to see his reaction which was one of complete frustration with the poor delivery. This was just one example of many poor disposals that made it easy for the South Freo defence.

Many times Schloithe got the ball he seemed to have so much time to stop, look around, make the best decision and execute a kick without any pressure from the Swans players.  I was surprised that Pickering didn't make a decent attempt to tag him.

Corey Gault had a shocker, he couldn't clutch a mark. In general SF looked bigger, stronger and faster than us but it may have helped if Gault had been able to grab a few in the forward line. Lewis Jetta was limping around for most of the game and apart from a few junk time goals contributed very little. Matt Riggio was better this week but like the rest of the team often needed 2 or 3 grabs to pick up the ball. In the midfield, Fisher, Cipro and Riley got a  lot of the ball. The late withdrawal of Frank Anderson was a major blow.

Where to from here? Well I think most Swans supporters know where we sit as far as the competition is concerned. We are not good enough to compete with the perennial top 4 teams at the moment. We are really sitting in the top 5 due to the failings of some of the teams below us TBH. Peel look like they are the only real threat to our spot but if they lose to Claremont today, we will still have a 3 game buffer with 6 games to go.

Swans next four games are against Perth, East Fremantle, Peel and East Perth. Three of those four games are at Bassendean, so if the players have any pretensions to be a finals side, they really should be winning all of these games.

Claremont have just about won you an extra game today - a wildcard you could say
going to be pretty hard to see the top 5 changing now

Claremont did Swans a huge favour today by keeping the 3 game buffer. The top 5 teams on the league ladder look safe. Swans have 4 winnable matches in the coming weeks. Their final qualifying round match is an Away game. I think against South Fremantle? If they work on the negatives from yesterday's game and get everyone fit and running, they should be able to turn the result around next time. Certainly give South's something to think about on the eve of the Finals.

with this 3 game cushion Swan Districts will probably need just 2 more wins to secure their spot in the finals and we may yet only see 17 games played by all clubs for this season which will also help that equation
it is a huge cushion this late into the season

We were outplayed from the first bounce.
It was a complete carbon copy of the WP game a month back.
Most opposition coaches are aware that if you apply a hard tag to Schloithe he usually has an off day & therefore it makes it harder for SF but we just let him and Suban, Dragovich etc run around by themselves all day having a Saturday afternoon picnic at Basso, absolutely piss poor preparation by our match committee.
Not to say we didnt have our chances going forward but we are totally incapable of hitting targets.
God knows how many times we kicked it straight to a SF player almost like they were wearing SD jumpers.
Complete disconnection from the mids or those up the field passing to our forwards.
Here is an idea to our mids and backs when passing the ball how about kicking it into space for our forwards to run onto the footy not way over their heads or at their feet or straight to the opposition or out on the full when trying to kick close to the boundary!
Also the corridor is the shortest and most direct way home to goal not down the boundary!
In short we are still well short of the established Top 4 sides in SF, SU, WP & CL who are miles ahead of us in commitment, skill, desperation, game awareness etc and we have a long way to go before we can get to anywhere near their levels.
Anyone know why Anderson was out?

Lets hope so Mike, he was sorely missed against SF.

Also fingers crossed young Seb Bright is ok as well after copping a nasty knock to the kidneys in the 1st half.
He has been a good replacememnt for Spackman as our lockdown defender and has pantsed/kept goalless small forwards- Faraone, Garlett & Ninyette in consecutive games.
