Now you want him at Footscray FMD lol

What true ruckman would want to go to Footscray where their coach doesnt value them hence why he plays blokes like Dunkley, Bruce etc over a good young ruckman like English in the ruck whist Tom Boyd rucked in their GF? Percy would shake his head in disbelief at that lack of love for the ruck!

Because he was a spud at Collingwood mate...6 games in 5 years speaks for itself...but hey coming back to SD under PJ was the best thing to happen to the guy...well done SDFC on getting Gault to where he is now...he is in a much better place mentally and physically with his game to add to that 6 game tally.....think Gault is a much better chop out in the ruck then Bruce and Dunkley...any way English is too soft to ruck, he is much better as a mobile tall running around taking a few intercept marks or a kicking a few goals....but as you rightly say Bevo is a knob....FMD LOL, can't believe you have been watching the WBD to see/know all that.... thought you hated the AFL and didn't watch the stuff....strike me down with a Swans feather!

I do have Fox Footy to see how the SD boys are going in that comp Freeze that is it.
Gaulty like you mentioned had 5 years at Collingwood without really cracking it although I do remember him playing a decent game on a Friday night one year.
The ruckmen in the afl are different beast to the WAFL big dogs (Higgins, Goddard, Griffin, Eyres, Delaporte, Delahunty, McGowan) it is fair to say the likes of Naitanui (the best tap ruckman and clearance ruckman I have ever seen), Grundy, Gawn, Darcy, Lobb, Lycett, O'Brien, Ryder, Marshall, Mumford, Goldstein, English, Martin, Witts, McEvoy etc are a class or 3 above with their ability to not only contest at the bounce & throw ins but their follow up work as well.
WC & Freo have decent back ups in Williams, Hickey, Vardy, Meek & Dixson.
Freeze the one game Gaulty probably got beaten was against EP where Jones (who was in the afl system last year) & Ajang won the ruck battle giving EP's mids first use and their forwards a good look at it.

Plenty of blokes have had a second crack at AFL and have done well. Sam Menegola, Matt DeBoer and Sam Collins springs to mind in recent times. What I've seen of Gault I think he would do ok.

The competition to become a successful AFL ruckman is enormous where your competing against larger more powerful athletes than you'll find in the WAFL,and Gaults litmus test this season was his battle aginst our twin towers where he struggled, and i even thought our own Ajang Ajang who was touted as a possible draft pick last season was too small to play AFL.

I didn't say he'd dominate rl...I thought he'd do ok maybe as a back up ruck or second string kpp either forward or back. No-one thought Callum Sinclair would make an AFL ruckman either when recruited from Subi but he's defied all the experts.

let us hope he stays here -- he needs to lift SD up the ladder

More generally, it amazes me how the Victorians have managed to pretend to themselves for years that ruckmen don't matter.

The ruck problem, as everyone knows, has cost us dearly in recent years; but, thinking about Hawthorn back in the eighties, it cost it too; had they had a better ruckman than Greg Dear, they could have won all flags in the decade, in my humble opinion.

Both Eassendon and Carlton were strong in the ruck, and, it is no coincidence that both won flags in the era.

BH, just think Gault is in a far better place with his footy to make an impact in the AFL then when initially drafted, as what BC suggested with Menagola we al.. I would rather have Gault chopping out for the WBD then Bruce or Dunkley any day....and winning a Sandover may just give him another AFL gig, especially in a draft which looks short on tall talls....and with 28 games in the making, clubs might want picks ready to go from the off.

Tug my posts are definitely amateur hour compared to yours....always get a laugh out of yours mate, as they are always a good read.
