Given what is on the PFC's thread about allegged changes to this that and the other, it got me thinking in regards the multitude of jumpers Subi has had over the years.

Introducing the Lion, to give the club credit, was a positive; and, to bhonest, it is the best lion of any sports club in the world. You can shove Milwall, Detroit and Subi Floreat lions, and any other version, up your jumpers, Subi's is far superior.

It was the right thing to get rid of the Lion for the Hawthorn jumper, and the centanary jumper is a good mixture of the different Subi's traditions in jumpers.

HAVING said all that, and this relates back to the Perth, can anyone remember the monstrosity of a jumper which was introduced in the 1990s? It was notable for the following:

a deformed lion wich looked as though a little kid had drawn it
partially blue in colour

Thankfully such a jumper did not last long.

I quite like the current Subiaco guernsey.
Do remember the predominantly blue jumper with the lion on it. I think from the mid 90's if my foggy memory recalls. Had the two or three yellow diagonal stripes. That particular guernsey looked like something one would wear to training. They only wore that for 1 or 2 seasons thankfully.
The Subiaco maroon guernsey with the yellow SFC lettering from the early 70's being a good simple design also.

wag: yep, that was the bloody horrible jumper I was tryig to describe, you got it down to a tee. What a monstrosity that was. It had the potential to undermine the club, had a particular faction insisted on keeping it; as you pointed out with aplomb, it was a training jumper, at best.

The other slightly dodgy jumper was the maroon lion which we used to play in in away games in the late 1970s; from picturues and video, I have seen, it made us look a wee bit sickly and insipid.

I never saw us play in the SFC jumper, but agree, that it was our best jumper.

Lol we were Ark, the jumper didn't make us like that. If you chucked that jumper on ef, sf, p or ep it would've looked ferocious

Sorry to change the subject Ark but did you manage to catch the 1986 WA v vic match on fox the other evening? How good was that game! Bucky, Laurie, Macnish played like super hero's. I had actually forgot how good a player satori was, and bomber, well what can you say

DG: good post on the state game, I did not catch a replay, but i have memories of it; from a Subi, point of view, DG, it was good to see our players make such fine contributions to the state's effort that day; in my life time, i think only Gary B and Wilkinson had played any form of state football up to about 1984-5?

He was a genuinely great player Satori -- always played very strongly against Subiaco, as you know, whether we had a good side or bad side, whether he played in the ruck or centre half foward. In other words, for most of his career, he played in the two hardest positions on the ground and was exceptional throughout.

Can you think of any other player whom has done that?

i think that was peake's greatness, is that he very rarely failled in important matches; you know DG, the 1986 gf against the mighty Lions was probably the only exception throughout his career. In the state game, his effort was extra special because, to his etenal credit, he played well out of position at full forward

Great stuff

Cheers Ark, not forgetting Feathers and possibly Fitzpatrick? Yes Satori was a unique player. Certainly mate Bomber was a great big game player, he or Bucky should have won the Simpson that day, don't know how blood nut pulled it off, the vic's rovers trounced him!

For me the 2 best jumpers are the current one and the old maroon with the simple SFC logo. Great display of all the jumpers the club has had in it's history in the area off the clubs reception. Some interesting ones and some shockers like the 70's banana suits.
