AR I thought the best Subi jumper (from an ordinary lot) was the one you wore exclusively in the 1980s to early 1990s, it actually looked like a football jumper unlike some of the other contraptions over the years!

97-99 was pretty ordinary too

some good posts from everybody.

BH: as a kid I had to choose between the hawthorn jumper, as I call it, which they introduced at the start of 1980 under Merrifield and the old one, which was still selling in the shops. I chose the new jumper after some angst; I did try and get both, but my Mum would not have it at all. Can anyone remember if shops actually sold the yellow jumper in the late 1970s? Great men did wear the jumper, David Parrkin included. I think the picture of Parkin wearring it is in Ken Spillman's book?

I liked the old SFC jumper from back in the early 70s.

The jumper which introduced the navy was, I think a tilt at the possibility of merging with Claremont in preparation for the end of the Subi oval lease and the possible move to a refurbished Cl oval, but the Council wouldn't have a bar of it at the time so we ended up at Leedo and got rid of that very ordinary jumper.
If you think Subi have been dominant, imagine a Su/Cl merged team (the Western Cats) with their rich private school/junior zone and Subi's money!!!!!!!!!

The problem with all jumpers these days is the amount of sponsors logos. Some jumpers are hard to see particularly Swans and EP. Subi had the right idea to have a special sponsors jumper for televised games.

I think most Subi fans, if it was put to a vote, would restore the 1973 jumper.

Whatever, one thinks about lions on jumpers, the fact is the club was one the trail blazers in the sports world when it did it. Sadly it has been coppied:

EF
PFC
Pl
most of the AFL twit clubs

Does anyone know who designed the SFC Leaping Lion. First appeared in 1975 and I think was exclusively used by Subi until recent years. A very different design from other "Lions" sporting clubs eg Fitzroy or Subi-Floreat CC.

I have seen it used by some local junior and amateur clubs including country clubs here and interstate over the last 10-20 years.

Anyone know the story of how this design came about?

I’m sure one of our knowledgeable fans will know the details for sure. I was young but vaguely recall reading about the design when it came out. I think by a Subi fan or member from a north of Perth farming region. I’d like to learn the full story. White Giraffe would have been onto it.
