I'd like to hear the subi supporters views on how they reckon Yarran will go at afl level. Will he struggle against the better defenders and play mostly at peel and bump them another couple of spots up the ladder or will he possibly thrive being a full time footballer and spend the whole season in purple?
From what I've seen of him, probably only five or six games, I think he could be in freos side more than peels. He has had to play on the better defenders at wafl level and will get the lesser defenders at afl level so that will help him. Hopefully Lyon doesn't suffocate his flair with overly defensive instructions.

Good question Too....I personally think he'll struggle as he didn't exactly set the world on fire after the state game this year. he'll have to make an impact at every opportunity if he does get a go at the highest level because he won't get too many. The other question is...who comes out to make way for him? He's not tall enough to be a KPP and he won't be picked ahead of Walters or Ballas..so really that only leaves a medium sized forward like Mayne. With Bennell coming on board it wouldn't surprise to see Fyfe go forward a lot more so for mine, I think the selection of Yarran in the draft was a strange one because he doesn't fix any great hole in Freo's forward set up.

I would of thought given his age he would be in the mix round one , if he has a good preseason and performs in the nab practice games he could/should replace Mayne round one an upgrade on Mayne imo anyway.

I'm not so sure about that...Mayne's primary role is a defensive forward who kicks the occasional goal. Yarran is a goal kicking forward who isn't particularly strong defensively..so I don't hink you'll be swapping like for like. if Lyon wants more goals kicked which I think he should then Yarran might get a run

Depends on his pre-season, needs to get stronger without beefing up too much and losing speed, interesting to see what the Freo fitness staff do with him. I think he be at Peel for the main part and play 6 or 8 at the Shockers

Yep you have hit the nail on the head BC, Lyon stated after the prelim they need to score more goals that's why they tried to get Mccarthty and nabbed Bennel , Mayne adds nothing in fact when he had a chance to hit the score board 20m out dead in front in the prelim in the first qtr he missed.

Freo needs more goals hence Yarran getting drafted, I have no doubt Freo game plan will be more attacking this year I reckon Mayne might be spending some time at Peel this year.

I reckon Yarran is a chance to play for Freo next year. Will get a good go of it in the preseason games and maybe even first crack over the first month of the season to see what he can do.

Freo need to be more attacking and I hope more of our midfield kids get a run next year.
