All the talk (especially from some of the Swans supporters) on local players and development has lead me to make a team up of Subi local players who played league footy in 2015. Subi actually do develop and give their local players a crack at league footy. Although Subi have struggled in colts footy again this year they had half a dozen good prospects who will be regular league players in years to come. Subis colts were also one of the youngest in the comp. Subi have also regularly played colts players in ressies and colts in league regularly over the years if they are good enough. In recent years colts that I can recall to have played league are Clark this year J Deluca last year and before that Woods,Chris Deluca. There were probably more recently? Of this list of league locals this year I would estimate over 90% have come through our colts program. I have put in brackets the number of league games they played in 2015 and put a # on players who had injuries which limited their games in league and ressies. Starting from the forward pocket -

Garcia (6) # Halligan (15) Deluca (14) #

Waters (10) # Wheeler (21). Wood (17)

Hoskins (8). Moore (10). Blech (6)

Le Fanu (18). Stevenson (8) # Worthington (11) #

Kennedy (17). Rumble (17). Featherstonhaugh (10) #

Ruck - Madut (13) # Horsley (13) # Phelan (21)
Interchange From - Jackson (7) Bestry (4) Bryan (4) Elliott (3) Norriss (3) Clark (2)

So not as bad as some may have thought and I might add not a bad side either. The WAFL may have to look at an equalisation policy such as the AuFL some time down the track but as the above team shows Subi play locals as well as their many recruits. They have money & hence an advantage - I'm not that nieve to say we don't. I would imagine any club would do the same if they were in Subis financial position? Schofield had many great players at his disposal so he had an easier job many would say but the systems he had the players adopting was very professional and with his colts and development background he does value highly the club development line and isn't afraid to promote and help players to the next level.
I would appreciate if all the other supporters could put up their team of locals only remembering that they must have played league footy in 2015 and I would appreciate if you could put in their league games tally for 2015.

Subi not only won in 2015 because of their vast imports but the development and strength of the depth in local talent. If Subi secure Cockie, Dennis - Lane and Broughton for the 2016 season then that will be 3 more quality locals to add to the above team.

I actually think that Subis all local WAFL team would stack up very very well against most if not all competitors.
This local player thing doesn't exist in most teams or competitions Australia wide except for probably most junior footy ? If it continues as a problem maybe the answer would be that as well as a points system a rule is introduced where by say for example 15 local players must play in the league team each week ??? Not sure if that would work or what would be achieved but only a thought.

Interesting to see your sides teams and any thoughts ? I'm not trying to be at tosser here but create a genuine debate and interest so I'm not looking for smart arse responses as I'm not trying to be smart either.

Sorry Hoskins was 8 league games for 2015 and Stevenson was 8 and injured with a knee or he would be in our best 22.

Note to all only 11 of the locals played in the GF but I would think Stevo and Waters if fully fit would be in our best 22 ? I know someone would bring this up so I got in early.
All this aside I think we would match most other all locals WAFL sides - what does your team look like and what do you think you'd beat us by if your team looks better ???

Chopper, I am gonna be facetious here and literally take your equality challenge to the word mate......if EF had Subi's money they would of more than likely kept Menagola and Hancock....thus I am claiming them as EF locals.....also if EF hadn't of had the likes of ROB, BOB and McGough playing, fella's like Yeo and Tropiano would of had plenty of opportunities to of established themselves down at Moss St...so I am claiming them as well ;) .....all these boys are EF locals and played WAFL this year

So from the backline:

Schofield (16) Jupp (17) Dorotich (15)

Stephen (15) Lester-Smith (17) Eardley (19)

J Green (7) Tropiano (20) Henson (19)

Anthony (16) Cripps (3) Yeo (20)

Hancock (20) Ellis (14) Dalziell (7)

Foll: Fletcher(6) MacNamara (18) Menagola (12)

Res: Boyle (20), Schleicher (10), Perry (3), Perham (14), Hooker (18)

Think this side may have done better than this years lot.....especially in a league where only local boys could play for each club......as for beating Subi...LOL....christ EF haven't been able to shake that monkey off their back for over a decade now.....reckon we might beat you guys by 2 goals at best.....with Menagola being BOG with 50 possessions :P

What's the story with Hancock. Never really heard of him before this year. Was he getting a game with the Sharks before coming to Subi? Or was he like Latham last year and could not get a game with his original club. Had a great year by getting a game every week in very strong team.

Played most games for EF in 2014. However was a last minute omission from the EF Preliminary Final team against Subi and then left.

Fair enough Freeze I see your point and fair enough to. The whole idea of this was to take money out of the equation but the problem is that some players may have left for personal reasons or a clash with the coach eg Hampson for Subi going to the Sharks ??? If you feel that we go the whole club of origin and local line should Subi be claiming him ??? All the Subi players are locals from their districts and country zones. I gather this is the same with yours? I have included Jackson for Subi as he played colts for us but I see he was from Collie so maybe he shouldn't be in but I don't know his full story. I've done our list in good faith and as accurate as I can but am willing to be corrected if I have stuffed up at all. A bloody good side there for the Sharks but still lacking talls. I would say you guys would have one of the best teams looking at your line-up but I would have to say Subi would still give you a good run and it would be an interesting game. A much more even contest than we've had lately that's for sure. Our talls may be the difference ???

I like the look of our forwards and our backs are still a solid unit but your on ballers and runners could cause us some major headaches freeze.
Interesting to see how some of the other teams look compared to these ???

Great thread chopper. Here is my attempt at a Swans team.

# Ugle (14) Ames (19) Wilson ( 8 )

Howard(19) #Simpson (13) Broad (20)

Grescos (12) #Blight (11) Dean (6)

Riddoch (15) Notte (20) Nelson (4)

Daniels (11) Nuich (13) Banfield (11)

#Blakely (14) Burnham (13) Faulkner (18)

I/C Coniglio (9) Kirkup (9) Whitsted (5) Ridley (4)

Not a bad team. Swans fans feel free to critique if you feel I have left someone out or if there is a mistake.

Thanks Mike - pretty good team there. Fairly young ? Is there any locals playing for other WAFL clubs at the moment in there ? So we continue with the tact that Freeze is on which is probably appropriate for this exercise. How do you think you'd go tackling the EF and Subi line-ups ?
