With Rumba playing his 200th Saturday
the question is , is he subi's greatest fullback. Not the most glamorous position on the ground and no other names spring to mind. Have heard Brian Sarre was a great player. In my era of following the club the only ones that stand out are Michael Crutchfield, Ken Screech from the late 70s with his booming kick, think Clint Brown played there for some time and Rumba.

I nominate D Rumble.

Mate, Rumba is up there but old timers say Sarre was a magnificent player.

And don't forget Colin Williams. He was a tremendous full back when I first started going in 1972.

Yes both these players made aubi's team of the century. Not sure if I saw Williams play, what year did he retire?

Not to many standouts though in fullbacks. Can't really recall to many from the 90s

I think Williams called it a day in 76...somewhere around then from memory. Didn't play many bad games in his 260.

I remember Ken Screech. Used to kick out with massive left-foot torpedos into the centre square. :cheer:

The good old days when full backs used to kick the ball 60 metres plus when kicking in from a behind. These days they more often kick it straight to the opposition 25 metres out. Well Perth do anyway. The fullback kick in used to be one of many highlights of a footy match that no longer exists. I am finding it hard to watch footy anymore especially with coaches like Roos and Lyon destroying the sport as a spectacle.

My selection from an oppositions point of view, would be Brian Sarre. I remember as a kid thinking he was a great fullback.

tough call this one. Col Williams 250+ games, Brian Sarre All Australian in 1966..Mike Crutchfield premiership player..but you've got to rate Rumba right up there with the best given his record of 200 games, 4 flags along with 4 state games.

What about Billy Monaghan ?
Sarre before my time, but my old man who played on him before he got to Subi, and said he was very good at Subi. Colin Williams rarely beaten, just a good old fashioned fullback. Ken Screech not in there class, but great bloke

hahaha..nice one kirbs. Bill was an honest toiler but not in the same class as the others...in saying that, he'll always be remembered for his whack on Chris Groom in the 95 GF.

Brian Sarre easily one of the best and longest drop kicks I have ever seen.
Constantly hitting the centre.
The centre not just the centre square.
Those were the days.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Winning isn't everything. It's the ONLY THING !!!!!!
I shot the fukin sherriff!!!!
