RESERVES
Subiaco 9-7 lost to West Perth 12-9
Goals: Clarke 2, Stephen, Boyle, Hoskins, Norriss, Wrigley, Vermeersch, Garcia 1
Best: Heal, Panizza, Hoskins, Norriss, Bryan, Scafidi, Ashman, Bogensperger, Berryman
That was a bit of a surprise to see us fade away in the last quarter. I knew that West Perth had a decent side because I watched them dismantle Peel reserves the week before but I thought we would somehow grind out a win. Not to be.
Thanks goodness for our defenders. West Perth had the ball inside the forward 50 fifty four times which is a lot. The week before Matthew Fowler kicked 8.6 against Peel. This week Aaron Heal was able to keep him to 2.0. Heal has the remarkable ability to spoil and then get his own crumb and is quick enough to rebound away from most opponents. He played an outstanding game.
Matthew Panizza, a player I don't know much about also did well destroying the ball and providing some run out of the backline.
Craig Hoskins was very good in the midfield and seems to be injury free. It's nice to see him doing well and playing the way he did as a colts B&F.
I thought Luke Norriss played a very good game as well. Aggressive, hard at the contest and capped off his good work with a goal.
Joe Scafidi racked up another 25 possessions. Many of them contested as usual.
Chris Bryan had a very good debut out of colts. He showed that even at a higher level he is able to play with great flair, courage and skill.
Matt Bogensperger worked his guts out and gathered 25 also although he isn't quite hurting the opposition with his disposals yet like I know he can.
Stuart Berryman was solid in defence. Joel Ashman very courageous. James Hughes tried very hard but made a few errors by foot.
Unfortunately Jordan Bestry left the field with an injury on a stretcher. Hopefully it isn't too serious. Another one of our younger players out of action.
Thankfully one - Jimmy Garcia - returned this week and did some nice things without dominating. Ryan Vermeersch made his debut at reserves level and was more than solid.
