Sadly, the AFL have gradually closed out all our marquee stand alone days. I guess we have to accept that they are competing against us and all other competitions nowadays.

One thing is for sure, plenty of the 3,440 (approx) from Friday will be back, so that's a good thing.

Yep it's great that on a big day /night like that the two teams put on a good tight contest for the crowd - Many who probably only came as a one off. It would be good if we could hold onto a few week in week out ??? I spew when every now and then they get a huge Derby crowd and I think where are these pretenders every week !!!

Good news though is that the AFL have not programmed a Foundation day game this year ( the West Coast home game is on the Sunday). There are 3 WAFL games being played on Monday including the Fremantle and Perth derbies so this will be a massive day for the competition

Yep hopefully we get big bumper crowds like we did a few years ago and with the comp looking fairly even the games should all be tight ???

I have good feeling about the SD V WP derby at Basso on Anzac day. The crowd will be huge.
Unfortunately being a Returned serviceman I will march and then go to a barby and a few drinks at Karrakatta so cant make it. I wish they had the game on Saturday or in any year the day after ANZAC. I know they have a short service at all the games but just something that annoys me as it is a day we remember the guys and girls who gave their life for the country.
But having said that a lot of those guys played Aussie rules and it is good that we remember that and have a game in their honour
This message represents the official view of the voices in my head

mikeh wrote: Well done to Subiaco for a great start to the season. I am interested in how Twomey is going, being an ex swannies player. Is he playing a running half back role for you guys like he did for Swans?

Mikeh he's doing the same role and doing it exceptionally well. At 3/4 time Schoey made some very good moves to try and get us back in the game, one was Hampson to half back swapping with Twomey and it worked a treat, Twomey's physical hustle & bustle created space and opportunities for the smalls to be creative, a big contribution to the comeback.

Sensational game of footy, each team having 2 dominant quarters where they kicked 6 in each, the difference is that the ferals were kept goalless in the first and last while we managed to snaffle a couple in each of the 2nd & 3rd which was the difference.

1st qtr we did as we pleased I think the cheats were still up at Joondy mentally and we played very slick team footy which has been our strength this year, not so much reliance on big names, always a bit of a task picking best players due to the good spread of contributors. 2nd qtr the ferals clicked into the form you would expect from a team chockablock with fulltime pro's and a heap of very good talls, Lycett should be in the Eagles he was terrific, good pace and agility for such a big bloke certainly they would lose nothing by dropping NicNat for Lycett. They very easily reeled us in with great pace and physicality which stopped our free flowing game. Same in the 3rd. 15pts down at 3/4 and all the boys looking spent I expected us to fold as we had done last season when the chips were down but Schoey has created a group that is fit and believes in themselves and they dug deep to pull off an unlikely win with gut running great physical pressure and persistence. Once the pressure went back on the AFL boys they seemed to put the cue back in the rack, not prepared to play for the jumper the same way that Subi did and WP did the previous week, that is their only weakness, the mental toughness and will to put themselves on the line for 4 qtrs does not seem to be there. When they can fill that missing gap they will be very powerfull and assuming they will be in the finals will be almost unbeatable. They showed that power for 2qtrs and brushed the current top WAFL team aside with ease.

But that last qtr was something to behold with 3/4 of the good sized crowd cheering Subi along to a memorable victory that must fill the boys with a great belief in their ability to win from any position.

Outer sent me some posts from what I think was an Eagles/EP site that had most winging about 1 decision made in the last when they were pinged for a deliberate knock through the goals when not under pressure from which we goaled, obviously a borderline one that went our way but only 1 of 6 goals we scored for the qtr so no impact on the outcome, like the 2 blatent ones mentioned in earlier posts that went against us.

Week off to regroup before what promises to be a crackerjack game against a very committed Swans side that has so far proven the pundits wrong, we will need to be at out best to beat a traditional team that puts it all on the line for the club and the jumper. Should be a good crowd at Leedo as the Swans faithfull always travel well.

Dead right about that deliberate handball through for a point SS it had no effect on the result at all.
Those same feral fools with very short memories who reckon they have never seen it paid before have obviously forgotten (no surprise there) about the one they received against Swans at Basso in 2012 when Simpson was pinged for the same thing except he was actually under pressure!

I think you Subi boys are getting ahead of yourselves regarding crowd support. Having been at the match I'd say 40% at best were supporting Subi. I spent about half the match in the EP members but moved around the ground including going into the Subi members and function room for the other half. Good crowd but 60/40 EP way.

One thing I would say is the EP supporters including myself are a lot quieter during the games. I put this down to a lack of affiliation with half the side. ☺☺

East Perth chant was definitely missing from previous years. Especially during their great comeback and their big Eagles players monstering us during Q. 2 and 3. Think EP were top heavy for this match. Could be an issue for them this year trying to fit all their Eagles talls plus Johnson and \smith
