it was bloody brilliant! one of the best functions i have ever attended! goss the ultimate MC. only players missing were burton (in US), crouch and watt. dick manning flew in from trinidad. i still remember the 1973 premiership and how much it meant to so many people.

the players had as much fun as the die hard supporters i reckon. i spoke to foxy cunningham who famously missed out. he said he had a 40 min hamstring test (including tackling etc from the coach) the night before the game...running between the headlights of two cars set up in a hidden park. he was told he had passed and was playing in the back pocket instead of centre half back...he woke up the next morning in agony and had to pull out for the team. he was such a good player (one of our faves)...and amazingly never polled one sandover medal vote in his entire career! he did say he was 4th best on ground in about 40 games though 🤣🤣🤣 very funny guy.

Yes...good memories Coogee. If I recall correctly Dennis "Monaro" Blair took Foxy's spot at CHB and won the Simpson. I was a young bloke and if anyone has vision of the 73 GF you'll see a fella with long blond hair running across the oval after the final siren with a huge maroon and gold flag. That was me and I gave it to Ocker who carried it when the players did a lap of honour.

I later found it that night outside the players change rooms so promptly took it home and put it up on the roof of our house deep in South Freo territory in White Gum Valley. My old man asked me to take it down after a week as we were getting abuse from passers by. Good memories indeed. :-)

Couldn't make the event so thanks guys for the info. I was there in '73 as an 18yo, it was amazing, specially watching the mercurial Keith Watt tear the Cardy boys apart. Played them 5 times in 73 only won 1 but the it was the one that counted. Cant remember much after about 8pm apart from when a Joondy supporter phoned in a bomb hoax and we had to head out onto the car park and oval, but once the building was checked it was back into it. Think I must have walked home to Wembley but cant remember.

Love the stories fellas. I think Shep was a late inclusion as a defender? Must have been for Fox

Cheers JL.  Ocker was my hero as a kid and I wore number 16 when playing junior and senior footy.  By sheer coincidence his wife, former Miss West Coast Sue Long was my English teacher at South Freo High.  I don't think they stayed together for too long as I think he finished up working for Kerry Packer and Paul Hogan not long after he retired from footy....she was hot though and a very good teacher to boot.

Johnny Dimmer was my teacher a couple of years later...he was only 18 when he played in the '73 flag!
