Half time and as usual we're not getting any help from the maggots with a 17 to 8 free kick count. Hopefully we can keep pushing on in the rain.

Terrific come from behind win. The boys ran it out really well after Swans outplayed us in the third. I thought we were much better through the middle this week and Harry Marsh made a difference and Max as well with an extra week under his belt.

Our backs are missing Hayden Kennedy but young Hickmott is starting to get better in defence although his kicking still isn't great.

Sokol was superb in the last and Borchet prominent back in his home town. Kitch, Giro, Dela were all terrific and I liked the game of Eaton. I think he's going to be a very good player if they keep giving him a chance. Also the young blokes in Vanirsen, Stergiou, Bremen and Ash all had a red hot crack.

A good win against a very good opposition in difficult conditions.

Thought swans were the best team for 3 quarters. But we were relentless in the last. Marsh made a big difference. Giro impressive in the last. Like Ashe's game too. Not sure why swans came to a halt.

Feeling gloomy at 3/4 time, sitting in the rain, low vibe at the huddle. 20 points down and honestly didn’t give us much hope. Now I’m stoked I decided to go for the drive!
Umpiring very lopsided in the first half again. I think swans were gifted 4-5 goals from soft frees in  front so I took solace from that.
A couple of our fringe players do look a bit off the pace, but very slippery conditions made it tough

Watched the game on TV and the momentum swings were pretty full on, Swans well on top in the first, then when the rain came in the second, we took charge to get it back to just 1 point at the half, interesting that with scores almost even and each team controlling a quarter the frees were 17 to 8??

Anyway, the 3rd qtr belonged to Swans, they were very good in the slippery conditions, regularly hitting targets when we couldn't hit the side of a barn and deserved their 20 point lead, which on a wet day is more like 30+. They dominated us in the ruck and in contested marks but we still had the edge in the clearences, primarily due to Kitch, Giro and Dela, plus Marsh was a good contributor.

The last was a tough no holds barred affair for the first 15 or so minutes, we had the ball up forward for long periods without scoring, the Swans defence had been terrific all day up until then, but that was when Swans run and intensity dropped away and our seasoned old hands took charge, Borch chipped in with his 4th and Sok got off the leash big time with 3 in 5 mins. I thought the defender on him had done a terrific job, but in the end if your opponent kicks 4, it's not a good day. We have talked a lot about Subi's fittness and strength over the years but I think that showed up clearly yesterday, as we ran right over a very tired Swans in the last qtr. They displayed better skills for much of the game, way more leg speed but when the tanks empty, that goes out the door.

Kitch put in another herculean effort and just shaded Fisher for BOG. Dela and Giro not far behind, Marsh was good first up, will be much better for the run next week, Borch was good all day and Sok only needs a few opps to make an impact. I liked Eatons game, not overly tall, but a big leap and a strong lad, we need to persist with him. Young Ash looks like a player, Harris was solid, but our usually solid backs were well down for much of the game, Locks was well beaten and Gus didn't have his usual impact, we really miss Kennedy down back, his ability to read, intercept and fill space is sorely missed.

Plenty of comment about the free kicks, ended up 21 to 16, so 8 to 4 our way in the second half, so the umps tended to put the whistle away compared to the first half. The TV commentators mentioned several times that Swans lead the comp in frees for. Who woulda guessed?

I remember as a kid, in the early eighties, Subi would often receive twice the free-kicks as the opposition and still lost by ten goals or more--40 free-kicks, too. I have really only seen the  umpires influence one game, that is, the first Peel grand final; but  having noted that. I wpuld add that  PA deserved to win because of its efforts throughout the  match.  Well done on the win yesterday, Lions.

Yes, I just saw that DG. 34 touches, 8 marks and 2.4. I'd persevere with Vanirsen in the seniors for a bit longer but it's good to have pressure coming up from the ressies.
