yep, an obsession it was: between 1938 and 1970 just the following were non playing appointments

Arthur Green
Killigrew
Jack Ensor

The only one whom was a success was Charlie Tyson

Cl., also had an obsession with player coaches until after Neesham

If Horse does hang up the boots, he might follow a similar path to Schoey, go off to another club, a well run club like Souths or Claremont as an assistant (never like an untried going straight into the head coach role) then take over Subi's colts for a year, then into the head coach role in '23 maybe. Wardman should have run his race by then unless we win the next 3 flags B)

I read in the West that according to Wardman, Horse is likely to go around again given the shorter season this year which if true, is terrific news.

Horse is arguably the best on field leader in the comp, when interchanged he is always up and about talking to the boys directing the young fellas, he's a massive assett to any coaching panel, but make no mistake, Wardman is in charge.

Wardman seems rational and level headed. Deserves another season or two. Subi got done on the outside again. Too slow. Also, consistently outmarked.

I think Wardman erred in not playing atkinson on Keitel. Gus proved to be too short and light, and his pace would have been useful further up the ground. Kennedy being out was probably the difference. Pace is crucial.

Matera's kicking for goal was poor. Delahunty kicked terribly. Turnover city. Waters struggled to compete for lack of pace. Tried hard though.

With the colts in the 2nd semi and ressies in the first semi, there's obviously plenty of good lads coming through, particularly the colts who are a big bodied team for that comp. Some of the guys like Waters and Matera will be rightly looking over their shoulders. A number of players have had some opportunities in this silly season due to the unprecedented number of injuries to our A graders, that needs to continue into next season as after '21 we may lose Horse, Kitch & Dela maybe Locks and Gus, so we need to keep an eye on the future beyond '21. If we have another season like this one injury & form wise, surely the "Kill Subiaco rule" will be revoked and we will be able to recruit, even if there are some remaining limitations. There will be a flood of delisted AFL players when the AFL lists get reduced and Subi will be the only 2nd tier team in country not permitted to recruit these guys!!

To be honest, the kill subi rule probably worked as intended. I enjoyed seeing our homegrown players have a crack at it this year. I'm glad Perth made the finals.

But this magnanimity won't last long. As you say, it is ridiculous that one team in Australia can't recruit. On the other hand, our dominance was a bit ridiculous too.
