Oh and I like you will defend players to the cows come home. have a good one!

I wouldn't say its all doom and gloom because they were virtually full strength.

I hope you are right for the sake of the competition and that they do get challenged by someone. I don't buy the theory that the shortened season makes Subiaco more vulnerable due to the lesser number of games and the chance that a couple of losses could put them in jeopardy. The fact is that Subiaco don't lose games as their record indicates. 2 losses in the last 3 years was it? If it wasn't for the concocted Peel teams of 2016 and 2017, they would be aiming at their 7th premiership in a row in 2020. If anything the shorter season will make them double down their focus further and ensure that there are no lapses on the way to the finals. They have already indicated that their target is to score 15 goals a game in 2020 and they certainly have the firepower to do this. If they achieve this objective no other WAFL team will be able to keep up with them.

The restrictions that have been put on them by the WAFC will not affect them this year, maybe when some of the champions like Horsley, Kitchen etc retire but these guys are already passing on their work ethic and culture to the younger players so don't expect them to sink to the middle or bottom of the ladder.

MiheH whilst not being a huge fan of $ubi at the best or worst of times some of their play was quite inspiring for someone who just love the game and how it can be played. Yes they were nearly VB whilst we were not quite sex by the ocean but we had enough out there to be able to make it difficult but at times we just could not!

Time will tell, sometimes I think folk should forget the $ rubbish and watch their play, it can be quite awesome!

Mikeh, I agree with your 2nd para, it wont bite until those guys move on, although the shortened season might see a couple of them suit up for one extra full season. After last season, Horse stated 2020 would be his last, Kitch and Dela said it would be 2021, I would also expect guys like Litherland, Lockyer, Heal & Newton to be looking at hanging up the boots around the same time as Dela & Kitch.

Just had a look at the full league list as shown on the club website, 56 players, average age 22.9. There is a big group of players in that critcal 22-28 yo range. 3 players 30 or over.

Good comments Grump. IMO Subi is a very well drilled and disciplined side which starts with the leaders of the playing group...not the coaches. It helps by getting some excellent WAFL standard players on board by nefarious means according to some or otherwise but at the end of the day, standards are set on the training track and game day, and if individuals don't want to buy into those standards they're replaced by someone who does. They're also very defence focussed and the back 6 of Lockyer, Litherland, Heal, Kennedy, Braut, Clark are top shelf. I remember Schofield saying at 3/4 time a few years ago that if you get the defence right, offence will take care of itself. A simple formula which seems to work.

With the VFL shut down what Subi players would have been playing VFL and may consider coming home. We already have TEB back, wonder if Clarke or DeLuca will consider heading back. Is Deluca still on Carltons list?

No Deluca was dropped off Carlton's list SS and Subi banned from recruiting Clarke back on their list? Can't remember the rules but was unofficially dubbed the Zac Clarke rule.

But you can get Deluca back but I think he settled in Melbourne due to employment from memory.
