There seemed an element of desperation in Paul Gallen's pleas for Cronulla fans to turn up to the Sharks' elimination final against North Queensland.

Instagram: Paul Gallen's Instagram video calling on Sharks fans to watch their final against North Queensland.

"It would be fantastic if you could all get out there to support us. It would mean a hell of a lot to us," he said.

Alas, the 'Up, Up Cronulla' crowd that was so vocal as the Sharks broke their premiership drought in 2016 was nowhere to be seen this time around.

Just 16,115 of the almost 46,000 seats at the SFS were filled for the thrilling extra-time game, won 15-14 by the Cowboys.

It was the second-best crowd of the opening week of the NRL finals, just ahead of the 15,408 people who turned up to watch the Panthers beat the Sea Eagles at the same ground.

Only one of the NRL's finals at the SFS passed the 20,000-fan mark, with a 21,212-strong crowd witnessing the Roosters edge the Broncos at the same ground.

Bazza whilst you are doing an in-depth analysis of attendance figures would you care to explain the poor attendance at Freo Oval on Sunday?

It was like an SD home game on Sunday 80% Swans I reckon, but we knew that would be the case

Dream on, it was about 80% SFFC at the final siren after south tore sdfc a new one....lol

Bazza we are still waiting for an apology to the two young kids. Obviously you don't think it is important to encourage the next generation of WAFL supporters. Of course it does speak to your anti-WAFL stance and your fixation on the AFL.

As for your delusion that there were more South Freo supporters than Swans, the fact you had to be prompted several times to comment on South Freo's attendance speaks volumes in and of itself.

I am shocked. Does anyone know where Bazza is? I would have thought in the interest of "fai and balanced" reporting he would have trumpeted the GWS vs WCE crowd last night. Apparently the LOWEST crowd for a VFL/AFL final since the FIRST WORLD WAR.

Perhaps Bazza can also provide information as to what the ratings in Sydney for Sydney and GWS were and whether they are predominantly shown on the main channel or on a secondary channel?

Bazza are you able to provide the attendance figure for the GWS WCE final and the Sydney and Brisbane ratings for both AFL finals this week end? Also, can you confirm or refute that in the Sydney market that the Geelong Sydney game was telecast on the main Channel 7 station?

Pfft, our cheer squad puts yor lame effort to shame,,,and I walked past the crew with the sheet, are you sure they were kids? looked older to me..
As another INDEPENDANT Poster said weighed up the attendance was quite evenly balanced.
Anyway its ancient history,

This thread was about LAST WEEKENDS attendances,,,can you comprehend that SWAN. last weekend was MASSIVE.

This weekend clearly not. The GWS turnout piss poor..must be a NRL mindset,

Swan National Ratings as follows, AFL won both slots,
Friday AFL 769,000 NRL 656,000
Saturday AFL 608,000 NRL 564,000

Quite amazing that despite what can only be described as a very ordinary fixture on a national basis, GWS v WCE on Saturday , it still drew more viewers across Australia than NRL.

Sorry don't have all city break downs , but despite having two of the biggest cities Sydney and Brisbane NRL wise against minnows like GWS and WCE they couldn't beat AFL nationally is a pretty sad indictment on their product.
