There seemed an element of desperation in Paul Gallen's pleas for Cronulla fans to turn up to the Sharks' elimination final against North Queensland.

Instagram: Paul Gallen's Instagram video calling on Sharks fans to watch their final against North Queensland.

"It would be fantastic if you could all get out there to support us. It would mean a hell of a lot to us," he said.

Alas, the 'Up, Up Cronulla' crowd that was so vocal as the Sharks broke their premiership drought in 2016 was nowhere to be seen this time around.

Just 16,115 of the almost 46,000 seats at the SFS were filled for the thrilling extra-time game, won 15-14 by the Cowboys.

It was the second-best crowd of the opening week of the NRL finals, just ahead of the 15,408 people who turned up to watch the Panthers beat the Sea Eagles at the same ground.

Only one of the NRL's finals at the SFS passed the 20,000-fan mark, with a 21,212-strong crowd witnessing the Roosters edge the Broncos at the same ground.

Bazza whilst you are doing an in-depth analysis of attendance figures would you care to explain the poor attendance at Freo Oval on Sunday?

Attendance was about the same as V Peel

The only difference I can see is that it was played on a Sunday, which I have ssaid time and time again does not work for WAFL people who prefer Saturdays , Saturdays game v Peel actually had a far better atmosphere, in insipid performance by Swans didn't help, nor did the decent flow of Swans folks leaving at 3/4 time which I personally witnessed.

Spoke to a mate just yesterday a keen SDFC who hardly misses games , he was there and confirmed to me Sunday was poor day for WAFL and Swans fans as it puts people off and he was disappointed by the low numbers not to mention the performance it self.

besides all that once the dockers farked over the finals series , all the sting and interest pettered out of the comp, had south beat the dockers in the first round interest across the board would of been up, now they have beaten subi , its just about killed it tbh.

we are talking pissy figures anyway the finals range about 3 - 5 K , big deal.

Anyway this thread is about AFL dominance in the top level of Australian Sport

How much coverage did SF v SD get in the SMH?

Quite remarkable obfuscation there Bazza. Whilst a number of Swans' supporters left at 3/4 time., what you failed to mention or comment on was the small number of South's supporters from the start of the game.

The crowd was 400 more than v Peel..lol , proving once again the theory that SDFC are not the be all and end all of WAFL. , 400 - big deal.

As my SDFC mate said - he was disappointed with the SDFC turn out.

Have to say most look elderly and a good portion clearly have disabilities both physical and mental. At least 3 past me actually talking to themselves.

Was that you with the folding chair leaving at 3/4 time swan? So much for your tip of feeling pretty happy by 5pm..lol..or was you with that tragic Send them back to the kennel sign written on your old bed sheet,,,that went well...lol

Bazza once again you clearly are embarrassed by the poor support for your team last Sunday. Unequivocally the numbers of Swans' supporters was significantly more than for the home team.

I was there for the entire colts' match. Similarly, our reserves' match and again there for the entire league game. I was also there to clap Tallan Ames of and whilst I am here kudos to the South's players for also clapping him off.

Now we come to the comment about most look elderly and the home made sign. No I didn't make the sign. I do know that the sign was made by a couple of YOUNG Swans' supporters. So it is interesting that you would try to belittle those young Swans' supporters and demographic that we should be encouraging not denigrating.

Just so it is on the record Bazza.

Which club had the greater number of supporters at Freo Oval on Sunday?

Were you pleased, disappointed or ambivalent with the support from the South's supporters at the game on Sunday?

My personal belief for what it is worth is that it is not unequivocal that the numbers of Swans' supporters was significantly more than the home team.
From my view (which is unbiased) is that support was very close to even - with the home team probably edging it.

Less than a 1000 SF fans there mate so 80/20% Swans way right on the money.
I thought SF had a big following?
And to the numbskull commenting on the SD fans all being demented or having a disability they may want to rethink that as it also may offend one of his very own hardcore fans!
