Time to put succession back on the table for discussion, it really is a point in history when we need to preserve our resources and incomes for our own people, the Federation is not working for WA, although its true over the course of history we have been net recipients of Federal tax, this is highly unlikely to happen again with massive Iron, Gas, and other resources we have the potential to be one of the richest countries in the world.

Own sovereignty would mean we keep all Federal Royalties from off shore Gas and Oil production.
Keep every cent in income tax and have our own GST.
Maintain all our own Royalties
Run a smaller cost efficient Government
get our portion of the ADF and run it as a low cost coast guard/self defence unit only. ( no over the top submarine programmes of F35 rip offs).

Baz we would have enough money to pay the US,British or Japanese to build military bases in WA.

For sure, and be part of the same alliance set up.

Baz we lost in Federation in 1901.But won a referendum in 1932.For succession but the British Parliment would not approve it ??? Let's go for 3rd time lucky.Canberra was laughing at us this morning.As they laugh at us everyday.They are the ones who have broken Federation not WA.

a they favoured federations for cost reasons
b the blame lies with the ALP -- they refussed to implement a democratic vote

they would be oppossed to it 100 per cent today as well

Mate it was actually 1933, but the reason was because the British Parliament no longer had the power to legislate in Australia without the permission of the Australian Federal Parliament, this was due to the Statute of Westminster passed in 1931 between UK Australia Canada South Africa and NZ. So they referred it back to Canberra who never acted on it.

Baz: the Westminster Statute did not come into forc in Australia until 1942, technically they could have forced it through. The reason they did not was because the ALP won the election held at the same time as the referendum vote. . Had the Conservatives won the election, they would have pursued the issue with the British government.

It is, of course, a mystery why they votted the party which supportted secesssion out of office

My understanding of the 1931 succession refo was that it had a 90%++ vote in WA but to get over the line it needed 4 of the 6 states to support it and that was never going to happen.

It's a nice idea but we have a massive land mass in WA and a small population so the cost of infrastructure establishment and maintenance would be massive. Also the cost of defending such a huge land mass with an incredibly long and in most cases deserted coastline especially in the north west would again be massive. There are countries to our north that would eye off our resources and with little or no defence we would be an easy target. Would the rest of Australia defend us after we gave them the finger and went our own way? Probably yes but at a massive cost and many many strings attached. The defence facilities we have like garden island and Pearce airbase would be quickly decommissioned as they are Australian Federal property and we would no longer be part of Australia. The only way we could mount a feasible defence is to allow carte blanche for the Yanks or poms to establish whatever military bases they wanted where ever they wanted. it's a case of the devil you know.

I believe the GST will eventually get evened out, the eastern states want us to suffer a bit longer for having the temerity of being the resource rich piece of dirt we are, while their manufacturing rusts or disappears altogether.
