The motion called for the state council to establish a committee with three former members of Parliament and three members of council to "examine the option of Western Australia becoming a financially independent state".

The motion did not initially contain the word "financially" but an amendment was passed to make it "financially independent".

Yeah they amended the claus eat the last minute to mean "financial" independence. sounds like a pipedream to me..but the way Norman More describes it he wants States to keep their own GST and go back to having the power to raise their own Income Tax, which was given up in the 40s; seems like chasing red herrings to me, why not do what every other state does and something we could actually do and bring in pokies, raise 1 Bill a year and have it GST exempt in calculations, every other state is laughing at us.

why don't they just do the right thing by WA? It is our money. I am more than happy to pay taxes to the Commonwealth Grants Commission to help out the poorer states and territories. The hole system is arse about: we should get 100 per cent of our monies amd the grants get given to other states; instead, they rip us off, giving only a proportion of it back in Commonweslth grants.

We should not have to beg like Oliver Twist for our own money.

The problem is all the states agreed to this formula when the GST came in, and for the first decade or so WA was a net beneficiary of the GST revenues in the wake of the states debt following WA Inc, once the Royalties cranked up the formula required that we drop our revenues, mendicant states like SA and Tas continue to receive massive portions and of course they all have gambling revenues that are specifically NOT included in GST calculations , this was something all the states agreed to as well, as we are the only ones with no Gambling Pookie revenue that will never change.
