What do we stand for as a country if we put up with and cop these sort of insults from this bullish powerhouse? Do we zip it to appease the Chinese in the name of (China is good for our economy)? Or do we take a stand against a world powerhouse that is building military dominance in the South China sea and quite obviously are prepared and willing to flex it's might over the region? I ask you.

DD: Good post: the west needs to develop two operation plans in the event China interferes with trade: the first is to blockade the islands; the second, if China attempts to break the blockade, to destroy China's position in the region with direct military attacks on the islands themselves.

And we allow them to insult us as Australians but allow them to buy up our farms. FMD what are these WANKERS doing who are appointed to run our country? No different to prostitutes who sell their bodies and their souls.

Now we know why they've been stockpiling our iron ore. Not just building satellite cities and skyscrapers but building an arsenal of weapons and a navy and airforce capable of intimidating anyone it chooses.

STOP selling the pricks our iron ore, STOP selling them our real estate and STOP selling them our beef and fresh produce. Fuck'em.

Much better to have China and Russia weak and leave America the one and only Iron horse
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

my question is why are we getting involved at all with something that doesn't concern us? we've been burnt before putting our noses into world events while following the lead of the US et al. China is our largest trading partner and the South China Sea and Spratley's aren't in our immediate area ..so why the need to flex our tiny muscles against a world super power.

BC -- this country is part of the Western world and should adopt foreign and defence policies which are consistent with that ethos, irrespective of short-term trade concerns. Just to illustrate the issue further, Australia is a signatory to the Five Power Pact and is committed to the defence of both Malaysia and Singapore, alongside the UK and NZ. We fly in and out of the Spratleys because of our obligations under the above treaty.
