Wilkie made an impassioned speech on the problem today, it is a pity that I could not agree with most of it. Like a lot of people whom are left of centre, he wants to blame the West for ISIS, which is simply a distortion of the truth. The reason that Syria is in turmoil is because of the dislike between the Shiites and the Sunnis, and because, of a determination on Putin's part to defend the last piece of the Russian Middle East.

They were fighting one another 1000 years ago and will be in 1000 years time - if they haven't blown humanity up by then.

Yep, there are a heap of minority groups in Syria caught up in this which is the trend all through the middle east, there were 2 Million Christians in Iraq and Syria 10 years ago, they have been all but wiped out, there are Yazidis , in Syria, Druze , Sufi and Jews, Assad was a prick but at least he maintained some order.
Iraq I am sorry to say was a complete balls up in the end, they would of been better to just leave Saddam there.
Anyway all too late now, so what do we do now ISIS are on a genocidal binge of destruction on Christians and Yazidis and the world and useless UN has stood by and done nothing, I say offer some emergency refuge to those most at risk, esp Christian women and children.
Long term the only hope is peace and stability.

Countrys like Germany do most of the heavy lifting on this issue.Thats up to the Germans and well done to them. But surley its time for the penny to drop, the cost of hosting Refugees is astronomicial.$96,000 per boat arrival. We can house 20,000 on tempory protection visas and go over there ans sort this ISAS OUT once and for all.
Does that region need a new Sadam hussain leading one of the more powerfull nations like Iraq. The democracy expirement hasnt worked at all.Is the Republican Guard the solution to this problem.

I think Australia should be in line to take some of the genuine refugee's ... and I mean genuine, not those who have jumped on the bandwagon to get a free trip into western Europe. But Australia's position in the line should be after the mega rich middle east states who to date have done little apart from covertly (and not so covertly) fund these ISIS scumbag savages. These are mostly their own racial group and religion so one would assume can assimilate much better, but they sit back and do next to nothing apart from pay the ISIS savages for sex slaves as was reported in the West this week by an escaped Yazidis woman. After the middle eastern countries it then falls to Europe to take on as many as possible. Then perhaps we and countries like Canada, the US and the like can take their share of those poor genuine cases that have been forced to flee Syria. These ISIS savages are at the point of making Hitler look like a reasonable bloke!! Apologies to any out there of the Hebrew persuasion.

The only way out of it is to actually work with the Syrian government to defeat ISIS. It is no different to fighting with Stalin against Hitler -- and he bumpped off twenty million people between the wars. Talking about things German, Merkel is making a mess of Europe with her ill-considered open door policy for refugees. No fun for the Hungarians at all; you can expect a much harder line from Budapest next year, including more pro-active tactics by the police the use of the army to defend their country. If Merkel wants to help the refugees she should make a statement saying that Germany will only take refugees from the camps -- in line with every other civilised government

I agree , its time to bite the bullett and just back Assad, fark at least we know he can run the joint, even if it means he stands down at the end, dont forget he was using chemical weapons.

I agree 100% on Germany, Europe was turning into a bit of a third world cess pit years ago , this will just speed up the end, a lot of places in Europe allready have migrant problems African crime , it has a massive unemployement, huge debt etc..Merkel is making a almighty mess of it, imagine 800,000 Arabs and African rocking up to Perth in one year,,,how the hell would it cope.

Im with you from what I have seen on News footage even places like Hungary have been half hearted with the borders, it looks like more of an Army job, when they try the softy approach the crowds get aggro, and just burst through.

Its chaotic.

Baz -- Your right I would not support Azard with any great relish, as over the last 70 years his party has created a myriad of problems for the West; including support for Hitler, sidding with Russia in the Cold War, forcing Nasar of Egypt into the 1967 War, authoritarian rule for seven decades which has seen gross human rights violations against his people, and finally the use of chemical weapons, but, as you pointed out above, in 2015, the most urgent problem is that of ISIS. We need to be realistic and recognise that he is an ally in the struggle against ISIS; and further, acknowledge that so long as the Russians, Chinese, Iranians, and shiies in Lebanon provide him with help, together with those at home whom support him, the Shiites and the religious minorities -- including the Christians -- we are not going to shift his regime.

One useful thing which may happen as a result of Merkelism is the exit of the UK from the EU, as, in the wake of the refugee crisis, the anti-Europe camp has hit the lead for the first time in the polls. Naturally, Merkel will not be taking this possibility seriously enough at this moment, but, should it eventuate, her little European Empire will start wobbling. Noises will get louder in places, such as, Denmark and Holland overnight.

Yep. That's it and it will never never ever change. They know one way and that is conflict. Why western countries would remotely risk their safe way of life is beyond me. Having said that, they already have risked it and its starting to show. And our children and our childrens children will be left with an almighty mess when we are all gone. They wont be thanking us for it. It will be bloody terrible. Might sound heartless but it is a fact. And we already have proof of it even in the early stages. What we have today is nothing, wait another 20-40 years.
