Abotts response has been 100% spot on.

For over 60 yrs we have neither confirmed or denied intelliegnce activites.

There should be no public apology, we have nothing to apologies for, on top of that, it would imply that the actvity is confirmed and that we would give an undertaking that it would end.

This would be totally wrong, we have every right to engage in national security activity that my or may not include spying, giving an undertaking to the Indonesians that it would end would be very foolish.

Indonesia have are not and have never been a particuarly friendly nation with Australia, we have been in military conflict with them on at least two occasions, once in North Borneo and then again in East Timor, we oppose their illegal activities in West Papua, they have murdered our citizen in Bilabao and have never been held to account.

Terrorist activities continue there targetted at Australians.

The only ones that should be apologising in the ABC, for putting Australians lives at risk for no reason at all.

SD this all happened under labours watch and the Libs are left to clean up another labour mess.

No simple solutions here, yes we'd all like to stick it back up them but there are so many hard working Australians who would be severely effected if the Indo's crack the shites even more. Go have a chat with beef producers and see what they think of knee jerk reactions after Labours panic response to the animal cruelty 4 corners reports.

Nearly 300 million Indo's just to our north and will become our major trading partners in the near future, now is not the time to shoot ourselves in the foot with tit for tat diplomacy. They have an election looming and it's all about shows of strength and posturing, it will all be forgotten after SBY bribes and threatens his way back into power.

It was total stupidity of the ABC to go public with the iformation . that was obtained by a criminal, it achieved no public good at all - only harm, has triggered violent demonstrations, animosity and possible retribution.

No it isn't Labors watch!! All Govts Liberal and Labor in the past have been doing the same, Abbott should have been on the first plane over to apologise and we would not be in this mess. Abbott and his Govt have been seriously underwhelming so far!

Say what you really think Cocko......

There is no way our government should be dictated to by anyone let alone the indonesian premier. People spy on each other all the time - fact of life in politics.

You only apologise when you have done something wrong and you have no intention of doing it again.
