Hopefully a club like Perth or East Perth move to the WACA Ground permanently once a fair deal can be struck with the W.A.C.A.
I was lucky enough to play footy on there in the 90s and the surface was the best in WA (WAFL footy) by the length of the Ascot straight and the footy played there in the years 1987-2000 was some of the best I have seen since the advent of the 2 afl teams here, fast free flowing and high scoring due no doubt to the quality of the surface.
BH, mmm you obviously missed the games where they did not water the centre pitch area or when the fertilised it the morning of a game or was concussed due the hardness of the game - all of which was down to the WACA and their grounds man who resented the WAFL being there!

I was a trainer for all three grades in that era and the injuries and infections we had to manage and treat were a disgrace.

If anyone goes there you really make sure that you are treated properly, we had no bar facilities, the food was exhorbitant and usually only one kiosk open and if you play a night game the charges just go through the non existent roof, it was a financial mistake (one which EP are really good at making).

I actually thoroughly enjoyed it, as a member of the WACA at the time, watching footy games from the members when the cricket season was over was great, night games were particuarly good with the lighting.

I also recall the pres season comp was held under lights , Kresta Cup as it was then which was pretty good success broadcast live.

Changing the subject I see townsend is pushing for Thursday night wafl games. I don't mind night games but as he said most of the grounds lighting are shithouse

Yeah only the WACA is up to scratch light wise unless you use Optus and that would cost a mint.

As a spectator it would have been alright but the consequences with injuries was a bit much. The club did lose out with facilities and the like. Also the lights were bloody expensive, I recall abt $11k for the night and that was then $'s so the cost now .......

Christina Mathews would have to give the light tower a kick to get the festoon bulbs working like you do when the lights on the trailer aren’t working. Usually works.
Get on your bike.
It was Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve.

I presume that he has written that in The West Australian.  Does he explain what impact that would have to the players who might have to work either on a Thursday or a Friday?
Direct quote from the article:

The success of Thursday night football was evident five years ago when 51,000 viewers tuned into Channel 7 to watch Subiaco and South Fremantle go head to head.

The game won the biggest home-and-away ratings in the near decade that Channel 7 have broadcast the WAFL and won considerable praise from the combatants.

“I am all for Thursday night football,” Subiaco coach Jarrad Schofield said. “And the boys enjoy it because they get a couple of days break at the weekend.”

Rival coach Todd Curley was equally supportive and said there was little inconvenience in the midweek fixture.“We train midweek so there wasn’t much difference in that sense,” he said.
Thanks Big Blue.  The quotes are mind numbing.

any truth in it?

I would not think so.
Fairly certain the redevelopment at the WACA is still planned to start later this year. Wouldn't think it be completed prior to the 22 season?
Co-sharing across at Fremantle Oval also out of the question because of the huge works happening there.
Not unless East Fremantle co-share Claremont Oval which would be the next closest.
