Noticed a couple of days ago on my iPad a change in the colour of The West online app. When I opened it up it looked totally different, more like the browser edition but with smaller writing and noticeably advertising plastered all over it. The previous West online app had no advertising which was to be expected considering its now a paywall subscription service.

Now they’ve gone down the Murdoch path just Foxtel. Stat off conning us into subscribing that it will be ad free then slowly start slipping the ads in. But if that’s not bad enough I just noticed this morning the sleazy pricks have now added tabloid garbage as you scroll down just like they did with Perth Now.

I am seriously considering canceling my subscription. Why should I pay for a service that is going to plaster the app with advertising and sleazy attention grabbing tabloid garbage?

This really pisses me off. Does anyone know who you would bring this to the attention of? Is there a media ombudsman or the ACCC? This is just unacceptable and what choice do we have to get our news on what’s happening in our state and more importantly our WAFL?

This has brought my opinion of Kerry Stokes down to new depths. He is no better than Murdoch. I immediately wrote to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to complain and their reply was that The West app didn’t show all the same news content as the browser edition so it was to bring it inline with providing all news content. I’ve told them rubbish it’s all about pushing advertising and I will be reevaluating my subscription.

If anyone hasn’t updated their West online app yet then don’t. I recommend you turn automatic updates OFF like I did on my phone. The West is definitely The WORST, more so than ever in its history.
