JB wrote: I was at the grand final against Hawthorn and we didnt lose because we ran out of steam, rather The Hawks handled the conditions better than Freo and Freo were still well in it till maybe the last 5 mins. He gets to pick the list now and I'm sure skills will play a big part in the players that stay and the players that come into the club.

Yeah I was there as well if anything we finished stronger just couldn't put the score on the board, as for players running out of steam it hasn't impacted Rewoldts career, Lenny Hayes who played a lot of good footy after Lyon left the Saints, I think its the skill level which brought his game plan undone.

BUT he brought in soldiers rather than skilled players in the hope of winning a flag, didnt work then and didnt work with Freo. Lets not forget he had 9 AA's t the saints. Lets also not forget in the rain in the GF he left a wet weather player Ball on the bench in the last quarter. He is a good coach i agree, the again he goes in that eade class if he dont win a flag.

If your going come on this board get your facts right the only players that werent originally on the list grand final day were D.Peace and Dawson the rest were there before he got there, there are maybe two or three who were picked up after 2013 hardly loading up on foot soldiers.

Like I said opinion of plebs on Ozfooty regarding Lyons coaching ability mean jack I value the opinions of his peers , I kniw some people have a problem with his ultra defensive style , and I know I'm repeating myself the Saints side of 2009 had a percentage of 190 after the home and away, Heck Freo's % was 150 after round ten last year. But hey if you hate the guy you'll be blind to these facts.

Heres a fact, left a wet weather player in Ball on the bench v cats in 2009, ball was ideal for that sorta match, i dont hate the guy, just think he is an under acheiever. Did he have 9 aa players in the team at the time??, yet still couldn't win a flag.

So what that wasn't the reason they lost the game, the utter domination of the second quarter with out being able to put the score on the board is where they lost the game.

Regarding Ball does anyone actually know why he was left on the bench, maybe he didn't follow Ithe coaches instructions I don't know and from what I can remember he certainly wasn't a match winner in the Saints side.

How many AA did the Cats have against Hawthorn in 2008?, again bad kicking probably cost them the game shit happens sometimes in GF's.

Yeah true but the cats though they did WIN in 2009 qnd 2011, alas not Ross's mob could do that. I'd have Ball on the field any day rather than Peake!!. Maybe Ross left ball on the bench cos he wasnt good enough to see what was required the WIN a GF. Excuses excuses , good teams/coaches WIN. Had a chance in 2010 as well, what happened there PN??, from memory Collingwood kicked badly BUT won the match the following week.

I'll tell you what I do know it's hard yakka getting to grand final let alone winning one, but for some reason Ross gets vilified for losing two close ones that could of gone either way, but the only people bagging him are the media and people who like to make up crap like leaving Ball on the bench made a difference in winning and losing a GF, but the facts are he's rated very highly by people in the know and he would walk into any club as a coach barring a few if he left Freo tomorrow.

Fark I just wish some people here could discuss football with out letting their hatred of the club show.
If you don't like it, make another topic of your own.

Yeah sorry mate went off topic but sometimes it happens especially on the Freo board.

Its by far the most popular board here, cant be much substance on the other AFL clubs boards. I think some of these guys should either become Dockers fans or try and get something happening on their clubs lonely, no interest boards.

As Oscar Wilde once said JB “There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about.”
Poor Eagles, they are doing pretty well this year but hardly crack a mention on Ozfooty

Thought Croziers game was better, maybe he is better playing back with the ball in front of him and can use his pace to play on.

There hatred for Freo gets in the way of facts, for instance Dawson has hardly had any goals kicked on him this year, but theyl will remember the kick that misses a target not the fact that he's done his job and kept the FF goal less, and they probably wouldn't know he's being player of the finals twice in years gone by.

As I said before the signs are good for the coming years.
I am not sure Lyon will play either Johnson or Sandilands again this year. Both are far too valuable to risk again with the season all but gone.
I am sure Lyon wont make many changes this week, only those deemed necessary.
The likes of Apeness, Nyhuis ,Uebergang, Morabito will benefit from paying more WAFL time.
He will allow the ones who have played the last few weeks to settle into the side without changes.
What were peoples thoughts on Croziers game?

AM, this was the first time I sat down and watched Blakely play a full AFL game and I was absolutely delighted with the way he played. He looks a lot bigger stronger and faster than a year ago and injuries allowing he is a potential 200 game player for the Dockers.

I'm sure all the players you mentioned will get a reasonable run before the end of the season, Hannath is another one they need to give some games to in order to assess if he is worth persisting with.

Crozier I think is developing his confidence at this level and will be a good player. The jury is still definitely out on Taberner and Sheridan who often make poor decisions under pressure.

Good news that Lachie Neale has suspended negotiations with other clubs for the moment and is only dealing with Fremantle. Its now up to the Dockers to make sure that they keep him.

Its looking more likely that Neil will stay, but if he doesn't we should pick up something good in return.
