A club called West Perth based in the far Northern suburbs is the dumbest name for a club in Australia. The club is at least 30ks away from the suburb of West Perth so it is absolutely stupid to keep calling it West Perth and base it in Joondalup. The club has absolutely no identity to people who don't follow it and the name change to Joondalup is so obvious.

Geographically speaking, it would make sense to change the name. The West Perth footy club is now located quite some distance from their former home of Leederville.
My understanding is the members will be voting on the issue during the off season. If the yes vote is popular, the mane change will happen starting next season probably.
However, there are much bigger Wafl problems that need attention urgently. Hopefully the many problems plaguing the competition get addressed instead of being brushed under the carpet.
Then things such as name changes can be considered.

WPFC are doing the right thing and putting it to the members, something their arch rivals neglected to do re the alignment. They did it previously but even though a name change was narrowly supported they didn't proceed so I imagine they will ask for a 2/3 majority for a name change to happen otherwise it will leave the club divided.

In the end it should always be the members who decide and then live with any consequences.

For those that want a voice, have until June 30 to sign up..

As many of you may be aware only current financial Members of the West Perth Football Club will be invited to participate in such a process if it occurs. Membership applications for 2016 close on June 30. We therefore encourage all supporters to become financial Members by this date to be part of the club that has 131 years of history in the WAFL.

Which is what happened at Fitzroy in 86, The Club, the players, the admin knew that they had to move to survive, and put it to the vote to move to Qld, yet the Members (the greater majority in Vic) voted to stay, and look what happened. Not many know too that Fitzroy mooted the move to Sydney before Sth Melbourne, and the members cobwashed that too, allow Sth's to sneak in.

Thinking any old Footscray supporters who bucked up to the Western Bulldogs name, are now a real silent majority, or have come around.

The VFL moved them North in spite if the members' wishes.

Fitzroy were pretty much betrayed by their own,many who didn't stay the distance,when they were needed most.

Fitzroy still lives playing Amateurs,just not in the AFL.

But don't tie this in with this situation.It's $40Grand Blackmail money West Perth can well do without.

Well they did in away, whilst Fitzroy was trying to coerce their members Souths were quickly trying to beat them to the VFL with an offer. This book is worth a read



Anyway my general point was be careful what you vote for

Word around footy yesterday that the Garlics wont be changing there name any time soon.

Name will change for sure. Joondalup Falcons by majority member vote. No 2/3rds or 75% just a majority vote.

It's pretty obvious that Channel Bully is leading this dance. They have hopped into bed with the City of Joondalup to unstablise the club. They can't tolerate our partnership with Channel 9. Dirty players!
