Article by Arron Black Re State game

Full article.

In part... I was fortunate enough to be selected to play back in 2013 against Victoria in Northam. It just happened to be a part of a team who would beat the Victorians for the first time in 22 long years. It was a special time for WA football, and it was very exciting for the blokes who played in the game. One of the memories which sticks out in my mind is from the first five minutes, kicking the first goal from 50 metres out. I was still only 20 at that time and it was an extremely daunting experience leading into the game so I’ll always remember kicking that goal and using it to help settle my nerves. It was obviously a fantastic day for WA with the game ending up in our favour after we ran out winners by 17 points.

Will be there to cheer you on Blackie... Nelly and Striker... Let hope none of you are dropped if you are on the back of Chris not being selected.. I will treat the game like a grain of salt and depart early.. :(

Great game by our 2 Reps in the State Game... Shame NELLY was dropped... Spoke to him before the game and he was looking forward to it.
Strange decision but when you have idiots like Micale as a selector it is expected.

Full stats on the game are at

Congrats to the WA League side and the U18 who won a thrilling game.
Well done to Josh Rotham on being included in the side.

Just as a aside saw Blake Acres who was picked up by St Kilda in the 2013 draft got subbed on yesterday for St Kilda who are struggling with a young side and a few injuries as well.

All the best with Blake and sure he will do our club proud.
Hope that Shoulder is giving him no grief.
Will follow with interest and all the best to him in the Future

Hopefully a couple of the WP U18 guys will be drafted from the current Carnival

From the WPFC site

West Perth Football Club

Well done to West Perth pair Aaron Black and Andrew Strijk who both were in contention for best on ground on honours in yesterday's State game win for the WAFL over the SANFL

In my own opinion regards BOG - Yarran was the likely runner up and with either of the WP boys if a choice to be made it would have been Strijky

Blacks 1st and 2nd qtrs. were average and once again his turn overs let him down.
His second half saved his day and was much improved -
His stats don't tell the story where strijkys did!

If as they gave stated form and touch should have gone to who was chosen then Nelly was more than hard done by for missing the squad over Blacks inclusion but there you go.....

SA forwards let them down immensely and our backs stood with great effort and achieved pride.
Sadly backs don't often receive the rewards deserved as their job is often not as glorious as the forwards or mids ..
But congrats once again the the entire team and especially to the well deserved Simpson Medal winner Davies

As for LURCH (MrJ) let's all watch his actual efforts this week coming and see how he responds with a back up effort to his misconceived reward of State Captain (let alone actual inclusion)

Agree Growler..
The one I feel for the most is Chris Keunen.. Definately the top Ruckman in the state at the moment with Stats to back it..Felt sorry for Nelly as well having to wait to just before the game to be advised he was dropped. You would think they could have the final team out by Thursday?

Sure Nelly and Chris will put it behind them and move on. The Club comes first and they will continue to prove themselves on the Field for WPFC. We know they are both Red and Blue and dont need to prove anything to the WP supporters.

Harrows comments in his media releases are a bit hard to get my head around e.g

We judged it on who was in the best form right at the moment, and there's been some unlucky players. I had to ring Chris Keunen on Tuesday and we decided that we had enough second ruckmen and went with Paul Johnson to lead the ruck.

"Chris Keunen was best on ground on the weekend and is a quality WAFL player, but we felt that Johnno's form over the last month has been at the level that he just pipped him.

Yes .. I'm afraid the manner in which the State Team handled the communication on selection and then to players was second rate.
Some of the media releases were Bullshit to be honest so the 'saying and the doing' failed..

Id loved to have been a fly on the wall when the coaches were making final team spots ... Dawson's voice I dare say rose a little higher than a crackling mature whisper...
It didn't seem to effect the squads moral so good one there... I'm guessing if your actually IN the team then your on a high so to speak

Mr J did not deserve his spot..he showed no excellence on the field but Ill not chat about Lurch here...
Chris is the best ... we know it and so does his opposition!!!

I am sure Mr Micale had a bit of input as well.
Got the Job as FULL TIME coaches advisor and Mentor at the WAFL/WAFC a couple of weeks ago!
Another job for the boys by the looks of it... :(

Yeh I can see WAFL coaches running to him for advice... Give us a break.
Maybe Dawson will be talking to him a lot but he will be out of Job at the end of the year. :) Replacement??? Suspect Selwood
Peel Coach up for replacement as Well... Marc Webb possibly?

Can see some big changes at the end of the year.
Anyway thats another topic..

I will be MIA for the next couple of weeks Growler. Only playing EP Eagles and Peel Dockers anyway non WAFL clubs... Hopefully we can get a win or even 2 out of these games.
Peel could be fun down at their home with Dockers not having a huge injuries list but we did beat a padded side last time and beat them..

Enjoy

Have a good break ;)

I'm sure Ill keep some of the posters here entertained - I do tend to have an acid tongue and a easy way to enthuse comment - be it good or rhetorical

I agree the years to come will hold separate interest for AFL involvement and the next two weeks will also be a more than interesting and intense battle against the 2 x AFL clubs.

I know we will give an excellent account of ourselves...

Cheers B)

No worries Growler... The WPFC is a great side and a Great Club and our players are dedicated an Passionate and win lose or draw they always put in 110 %..

I would go as far as to say the WP true supporters are the Most passionate group in the WAFL. It was incredible how many supporters were wearing WP shirts at the state game.
