Final side will be picked on Thursday

The WA squad will be finalised before a final training session and jumper presentation is held on Thursday, May 21.

Sandover medallist Aaron Black and runner-up Shane Nelson have provided a dilemma for the State selectors as they compete for the final place in the WA team that will take on South Australia at Lathlain Park on Saturday.

Sorry Cardy ..... :(
Your link takes you to the West Perth site and it’s rundown of last week’s game
The West article is as follows

au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/28135461/fal...t-for-last-position/

Regarding at the squad I have my reservation's they've selected a winning one?
Regards N & B … If the coaches have been watching of late (not just stat observations) I believe Nelly will or should get the nod over Blacky
Blackies game has been a little off lately and his disposals have been approx. 40% questionable....

Regards the state squad - I still think that we haven't looked at pressure footballers enough and lack grunt in that area.
Several of the likely forwards squad (going by the player's chosen)are players that aren't skilled in that area, sometimes a talent not taught but instead part of the individuals character, but these choices rather enjoy running around 'look at me look at me' style moderately effecting a pinning the ball down, or at the very least giving themselves to hammering the opposition players..

It’s an older style play sometimes less respected in this day’s love for rotation, flooding or forward press … But I have seen some of the SANFL games via a mate over there and believe me … they are going to show the squad a harder brand of game than what I think we’ve prepared for looking at the squad (Please no injuries!!!)
The backs (again from the players in the squad) except for Strijky (not just due to his WP affiliations but due to his ability and playing style) is the stand out for pressure backline play - will he stand alone??

As much as I wish WA to take the challenge and walk away with the chockies and the flowers I think will fall short!
I’m afraid the ‘Croweaters’ will take this win back home with them

Obviously happy to be proved wrong but that’s my prediction

Has Tallan Ames been ruled out then? Can't see his name on this list.

Yep agree Growler I did think it was not the best side against a Hard hitting SANFL side as is usually the case.
I would like to see Blackie and Nelly in the final side as they are both class players and find it strange they call it a Dilemma.

Would of liked Kody in the side just on his tackling ability as he certainly is a master of the art and Hard at it.. Would of made a couple of the SA boys take notice. :woohoo:

Cant see how Lee can be considered. He was the captain in the last state game after being out with injury and only playing one game.. Bit The same this year with him comming back after being out with Injury and then plays one game and out again last week?

Maybe it is the EP connection? :(

Chris is the obvious Ruckman due to merit and his record. Maybe they will go in with 2 Ruckmen? Johnson?

I sometimes wonder how they go about selecting the side and we have a couple in the side that are IMO past it.

I was really hoping Brendon Jones from Peel would get a State game as his endeavour is not questionable and the guy deserves a State jumper. He busts his guts every time he plays and is an important no AFL player in the Peel side.

Look forward to the game and hope we can knock them over to Prove we are the Best Football state in Australia.. The side does worry me a bit but sure the selectors have taken into account a lot of factors in their choices or at least you would Bloody hope so.

Should be a great curtain raiser with the U18 game. Good day of footy. Well we can hope so. Weather doesnt look to bad for Saturday.

GO THE BLACK DUCKS

PS thanks for picking up on that Link Growler...

Injured...

Read the article above

Subiaco veteran Darren Rumble is almost certain to play his first State match in six years after full-back Tallan Ames was ruled out with hamstring soreness.

I like all posted by yourself CARDY

Nice round up players and abilities

I also agree wholeheartedly regards Manning... Kody had a massive hand in turning our game around two weeks ago, some said he was actually the initiator, he was hard at it again last week playing his same unselfish way as he has been all season to be actually honest – I find the supporters accolades to him when coming off the field or when he’s sprinting to a contest to be quite exhilarating Manning is the example of what I believe we have as an absence in the squad – sometimes you need the fear of god to be put into opposition. He is also a gaol kicker as proven this season and is one of the best kicks in WP (oooooops …that’s enough on Manning  )

I didn’t bring him up as it’s obvious to all here he is one of my favourite players so I’m glad you mentioned him hahaha

That fear and hardness at the ball and the player and then most importantly ….. youth!!! Is what I can’t see in the squad

Please prove me wrong or provide better observations than I have but where is the excitement machines who are within the WAFLs leagues body that will ‘give all’ on the ground if for no other reason because they think there ‘bulletproof’ …..I’m not asking for eagerness in replace of SKILL - not at all - but I see toooo much senior time amongst the team/squad. It’s too safe!!

I hope they can bring it on the day

Yep spot on mate.. The State game will be interesting with the mix they have picked
Our Coaching panel is incredible... Great to see JD helping out he will love it I am sure.
Harrow a very very experience coach at all levels.. Cant believe he hasnt been offered big dollars to coach a couple of teams inc Perth. I am not knocking Earl Spalding as he can only do what he can with what he has... But again having said that he has a pretty good young squad and after watching their rebound at the EF V PTH game they have the ability to win games... The Problem???? Maybe they just dont know how to win or just on the wrong side of Lady luck in a couple of games where they came close.
Anyway thats another topic.

As I said we have a great coaching group but unfortunately they cant win the game and it is up to the players.. Gotta work as a unit and talk talk talk and backup each other.
Want to see them bust their guts for the WAFL and their supporters.
Sure they will give it their best.

Just a bit of a flashback to game v NEAFL Last Year

Bill Monaghan was the Coach

WP Reps .. Kody Manning,Rassa, VB, Nelly, Chris Keunen

Last state game v NEAFL May 2014... NEAFL started well but fell in a big hole in 2nd qtr. We should of won by a lot more..
This game was supposed to be played as a Curtain raiser to a AFL game but them moved it because they didnt want the AFL oval cut up. :(
Ashton Hams got the Simpson Medal
Ames got a rib injury ... Pretty sure he came home on the Indian Pacific..

WAFL 5.7 8.12 14.10 19.18 (132)

NEAFL 3.2 3.6 5.10 6.11 (47)

GOALS - WAFL: B Saunders 5, G Hampson 2, B Boekhorst 2, N Rodda 2, H Schloithe 2, R Cook 2, A Stephen, A Hams, T Notte, R Davis.

NEAFL: C Hughes, K Klemke, S Ellis, C Ilett, C Dunne, A Vandenberg.

BEST - WAFL: A Hams, R Cook, L Blackwell, T Ames, H Schloithe, B Lee, A Stephen, B Boekhorst.

Confirmation needed ........

Are we just over 24 hrs away from the game and there is still 1-2 players to be cut from the squad?
This due to conflicts on numbers allowed and wanted by both State Teams??

It seems to be confirmed by this article Growler

au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/sport/a/281920...ns-lose-skipper-lee/

quote

But Harris and his coaching panel will still have to remove two more players after South Australia refused their request to play 23-man teams.

An extra interchange player is allowed under the rules of interstate competition, but the SANFL, which had asked originally for 21-man teams, refused the WAFL plea.

“It is a pity because they will bring a bloke over who doesn’t get to play and we will have to tell one of our boys that he won’t get a game,” Harris said.

I got the impression that Cornsey said he was happy with the extended side on WAFL WORLD?
Will have to have another listen when I get time.
Maybe he was over ruled if he said that?

I would say the outs will be from the extended bench..

Both states have named teams of 24 for the game including emergencies. The WAFL's sqaud has been cut from 27, with 2014 State captain Brendan Lee (East Perth) withdrawing due to injury concerns last night and talented pair Leroy Jetta (Peel) and Chris Keunen (West Perth) both unlucky to miss out on selection.

WAFL TEAM (possible line-up)

B: Ugle, Rumble, Wilson

HB: Strijk, Simpson, Twomey

C: Black, Anthony, Nelson

HF: Phelan, Notte, Davis

FF: Hams, Wheeler, Yarran

R: Johnson, Tropiano, Kitchin

Interchange from: Cook, Delahunty, Dell’Olio, Neates, B. O’Brien, Pickett
