Disappointing loss yesterday. We get enough of the ball but unfortunately our forwards have gone missing this year. Something we need to look at for next year. Should have gone on with it when we were about 20 points in front in the 3rd quarter. Maybe its time to look at some of the ressies. Just have to have a look at Martin. Got his chance and doing well.

My personal thoughts and observations

  • Bills message not being heard - maybe a couple of the players are looking to move on next year with contracts finishing? -(eastern states maybe?)
  • Bills message about leaving it all on the field at 3/4 time - only 6 players took it to heart.. not sure what the others took to heart?
  • Insipid chasing for the ball - leaving it to others - Rhoda shocking for this
  • Umps terrible throughout but even though I'm setting myself up they were insulting by the last two quarters eg EF Player handballs over the boundary line with no own players in front of him, the crowd yells, the Umps 2 yards away - Ump says throw it in.... INSULTING.
  • An Umps job is to not be obvious and to not influence a games outcome - they are not achieving this in any shape or form...
  • EF played a much more 'aggressive game' - several players to the point of 'nasty' - if the word was 'unsettle WP' it seemed to work as the game flowed on ... we needed a statement and none was made sadly.
  • Our skills aren't improving they are mediocre and that's not a standard to have.
  • No real continued positive exits from the centre - several players being cycled in and out of there and if the effect is to rattle the opposition - its not working. Lets leave a player in a/his position for at least longer than minutes to make some effect.
  • There are times we can be toooo smart but not battle smart.
  • Sav is learning to play his game - our other more senior centre and following players need to 'learn his' and not hope for the usual Chris style feed... they need to work harder and be smarter - no more easy balls.
  • I do not understand the amount of turn overs whatsoever... In the first half Bill could have ripped new arseholes for almost the entire back 50 players and then in the same breath congratulated them on their efforts to repel the onslaught of entrees being made -
  • I am still a believer that we are a team where the Captain showed his team what was needed with effort, no guts no glory on the field. It hurts to say it but I don't see that, its missing! - words aren't working on WP - actions always speak louder than words and those actions can no longer be sloppy!
  • Why have the best pressure forward player in the comp do his job when the forwards have gone missing in action?. Maybe he needs to change his play and kick the goals others aren't. and improve on the ones he misses no matter how hard they are.
  • WE ARE & REMAIN OUR OWN WORST ENEMY!
  •

Good input GROWLER and agree with all..

As for following coaches instructions? Heard Paul when talking to Def group tell player on Youngy to stick with him.. Player said he was covering a mid fielder so couldnt.
Bill also spoke to player and advised him - I dont give a fuck even if loose player stick to Young!!! Well hey in next qtr Young on his own kicked goal.. Now not attacking one player but it seems they had a lot of loose men again.
The Obriens had 31 and 34 Disposals who was covering them.. I am not putting it on the head of the coach entirely as he does give instructions.
Our league guys seem to live in a world of their own at times. I know I have said this before but the RESERVES listen to their coach Sanzone and the results speak for them selves. Think Bill has to bring out the big stick B)
Their is nothing wrong with our list and all the players are putting in and no problem with that. SO WHERES THE RESULTS?

Now like the players the supporters MUST NOT PANIC
A little bit of mass hysteria comes into it caused a few who write us off already and others listen.. The game was season defining but NOT SEASON ENDING.

As I said in an earlier post 8 points might seem insurmountable but with 8 Games to go? It is certainly far from the truth.
I will repeat what I said above... If Subi beats EF next week EF goes into a bye the week after and we have SF. All being well we should beat SF (If we dont kiss the 4 goodbye?) THEN IT IS BACK TO A 4 POINT MARGIN between us and EF..

OK week to week we will be either in the four or EF will be their. That is a certainty.

Our run home is not to bad.. e.g last 4 EF (at Joondalup), Peel Thunder, Cla and Perth.. Not knocking these teams as on any given day any team can win.

EF last 4 WP,BYE,SD, SUBIACO :)

Bottom line we have a better run home and if we are good enough we will be in that 4th spot but we must earn it. even better if Swans or Subi fall in a big hole 2nd and third could be up for grabs.. But lets not get ahead of ourselves ;)

Now with the all the comments about the umpires.. lets remember there are 3 umpires out there.. 2 in our game did ok and it was only 1 who lost the plot.
I should of said that in earlier post as it is unfair on the other two. Ok they made a couple of mistakes as well but we all make mistakes - INCLUDING THE PLAYERS

Seeya at the Footy...

good observation Cardy and Growler. Even though its going to be hard its not impossible. They just have to get rid of there egos and start playing for the team. Won the flag last year, this year it means jack.

"The game was season defining but NOT SEASON ENDING"

Agree Cardy and FF....

Watching the Reserves yesterday, while at times a little slow and sloppy, no-one could deny they are 'playing for each other'

Watching the league I see too many playing for themselves -

I know I harp on stats but a once great mid/forward in the AFL Stated "HE COULD NEVER REMEMBER HOW MANY STAT'S HE GOT IN A GAME - HE'D BE TOLD BY HIS COACHES MAYBE TO MOTIVATE HIS EFFORTS BUT MOSTLY IT MEANT LITTLE TO HIM. THE END OF DAY SCOREBOARD AND SEEING/KNOWING HIS EFFORTS MADE A DIFFERENCE TO OTHER PLAYERS WAS HIS SELF BELIEF AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT.
This players 1% were one of the highest in the AFL and more than several games including finals over the years were won from his particular unselfish acts.

Time for the guys to realise Stats wont take you anywhere or get your team over the line if you have an efficiency rating of between 45 and 60%. That's basically an average of half your on field efforts being without effect or result!!!

I wonder how many are falling into that particular category?

If you don't learn from your mistakes/history - they/it repeats

Looking at the scoreline having Marcus Adams and Guady out could of been the difference. Guadagnin never stops and is a game winner whereas Marcus gave us that big man up forward and has been very effective this year.
Sure they will be both back after the Foxtel which will further strengthen our side along with Chris Keunen (not that Sev has had a problem)

Side for Foxtel will enable Bill to give a few ressies a run and rest any players with Niggling injuries... All Good :cheer:

Oh well thats the end of my Post Mortem

Heres the Injury list as of Friday 13..
Good to see Jordon Jones play as was suspect. He ended up playing a good game.
Marcus looks like he could be a bit longer in getting over Hammy..

I don't know what the West Perth boys think of Seva Martin but I thought his pack marking on Saturday was outstanding. Yes, he only took five marks in total but I wouldn't be surprised if all five were in a pack. I remember the last time a Shark took a pack mark - I think it was Jim Sewell.
