It appears that the bad blood between Ozfooty Demons and Sharks supporters has extended to the club level with both presidents firing barbs at each other. As a neutral I am in Perths corner with this one because what is the use of having a contract system if players can just rip them up and then claim a breach just because they want to go somewhere else. Would have set a dangerous precedent for the competition if the Arbitrator had ruled in favour of Leggett.

yeh and this matter should never have wasted WAFC time , and I guess , everyone else's
and as much as I regret typing this mate - it is quite apparent we have a club with absolutely no idea of the damage this has done or care for that matter going by the reports
and good on Bob Shields by the way

Now that the arbitrator has declared he's under a legally binding contract, if Leggett decides not to play for Perth I wonder if the club can sue him for breach of contract and what the remedy would be if found guilty?

Totally agree mikeh regarding the importance of laying down a precedence for all players and their contracts within the comp.....as for bad blood between the EF and Perth posters...more like true footy banter from the good ole days....Perth boys duly got the bragging rights here and rightly filling their boots....just got to wear it....regardless of whatever your club does, every true fan will defend it till it's last I guess....because as fans we don't run the club just support it....

The club any player is contracted to has a right to believe even if the player says nope I’m not playing for you I’ll sit a year out of the WAFL and play ammos, that at some point he might have a change of heart or the club eventually convinces him to return. Therefore allowing a contracted player to play at a lower level puts at risk the player getting injured. So I’m thinking the club might be within their right to block any attempts to play at any level or interstate.

I think its been a mixture of both Freezin, There sure has been a lot of banter but I sense a few have taken it a bit to heart and got quite personal at times. All very spirited though and has given the WAFL a bit of publicity over summer and it sure needs all the promotion it can get.

I think we may see players opting for 1 year contracts with an escape clause to lower level comps.

Folk sometimes wear their hearts on their sleeves mikeh....things are said, a lot of the time in the moment with the info they have or believe they have....most of the name calling and personal insults are hand bag stuff...can think of worse names then flog, idiots, Freezballin, Fooolloorry, Strongbow et al...Perth and EF boys just getting stuck in....no different to the WP and Subi boys back in the glory Footy goss days...EF v SF posters in Dogman, Balla et al...footy banter always brings out the best and worst humour in folk....

TBH some of the mods and posters are too precious on here....some give a lot of rein and let the banter ride...others can't cope because they aren't witty enough to deliver it back and push a button...it is what it is...as for Leggett....geez he may not go down in WAFL history as a player that changed the on field state of a game like a Cable, Michael, Bomber etc...but he will certainly go down in WAFL history as the guy who changed the off field state of the game in terms of contracts etc....
