I was just looking at the PFC's results in the finals over those two years, the effort in 1976 was amazing given that the side was three or four goals down in the first semi at quarter time; to win the flag from there was one of the better efforts in the history of the league, to be honest. What I also noticed, which I wanted to ask about was, the 'buzz' man's performance in those years in the finals . He only kicked two goals in those finals, according to the stats. Was he out of form? Did Armstrong play him in a different position? Was he injurred a bit?

AR what struck me when looking back on those 2 sides from 1976 was how strong a talent EP were on paper but Perth were able to get the job done when needed in the finals, a sign of a great TEAM rather than relying on individual brilliance.

bease: agreed 100 percent: the Demons had some players with a touch of class, particularly the rovers and Couper, but the Royals had more talent across the board. As you said good team work and fine coach in Armstrong.

I also think Armstrong had the inferior side in 1978, and he nearly won that year too, as you know. Perth, from memory, did finish top, through a combination of their fine play and the fact that EP did not have its act together in the early part of the season.

Spot on BH I have often pondered which was the better team.
The 60s or the 70s.
I have always come back to the resilience of the 70s side.
They were often well down early in the game but found away to win.
I think it was 78 there was a game at Claremont oval where half way through the 2nd quarter we were about 7 goals down.
We won it thanks to Wiley bagging 9 goals.
Never polled a Sandover vote for that game and lost the medal to Kelly by one vote.
No wonder I hate maggots.
Ark I don't think Buzz played 76 did he?
I know he kicked 7 in the 78 GF on a dirty day when GOD was against us.

AR I heard Buzz interviewed recently on radio and he mentioned he was injured (hamstring from memory) for the 1976 GF.
