correction: there was a bloke whom coached CL for 6 and a half years back in the 1920s and 30s without making the finals.

There is more happening at Lathlain than you would ever know.
Maybe it has more to do with other motives.

A coach is only as good as his cattle.
I could mention a couple of Subi coaches.

DF it depends a little bit on whether one thought the Demons would make the finals at the start of the season. Some PFC supporters did, some did not, as you know.

I wouldn't put it past the likes of Robert Wiley or David Dunbar to make a complete and utter balls up of coaching Subiaco no what list they may have had - would probably get out strategized by any mouse whether it be a pet mouse, a field mouse or Stuart Little.
If you think Earl Spalding has a bad coaching record then have a quick check on the record of those two.

oooli -- you got rid of them after three years though. Big Earl made the finals in his second year at EF, can you remember why he left? On the face of it seems a bit harsh to get rid of a coach whom made the finals in his second year.

A lot of talk going on by those in the know about what is happening at Lathlain.
NOT!!!!
A lot of plans being put in place at Lathlain.
May well see a change in the WA footy landscape.
On and off the field.
We'll see how good Subi are when the money runs out.

He has coached for 1.5 seasons longer than Damien M did and has won the same number of games. Next year will be Spalding's sixth season at the PFC which is how long the great Ken Armstrong coached the club.

You need to appreciate he inherited a scorched earth from old mate Damo who had burnt through some of the best recruits the club had ever lined up like Ross Young and Paul Bevan. We were going down the s-bend as a club at that point. I'm sure if we didn't keep ourselves financial at that time the WAFC had us up for the chop. He stepped up, yep he wasn't the first choice, but the bloke deserves a medal for stepping up when he did.

Most unsuccessful or not I can assure you the ride with Earl has been a hell of a lot more enjoyable so far than it ever was under Allan Joyce or Tom Mullolly or Gary Armstrong and plenty of other "unsuccessful" coaches we've had over the years.
