Two more years eh , EF on the bottom of the ladder seem to have more young talent this club is dreaming if they think they don't need to recruit getting pumped at the minute by the bottom side.

Just on his extension wooden spoon ,eight another bottom two finish how do you get a two year extension.

Easy to come on and say that after EF play a big 3rd quarter Peter. So who in your opinion should the club be chasing or more to the point, who else would be interested in taking on the job with better credentials than Earl Spalding? If you continually talk about it being a shit club what are you expecting? And where has Earl Spalding failed in your expert opinion?

Two years extension is over the top , Christ Eastaugh and Mcdud copped some shit the latter achieved way more than Earl , and if the quote is true in the West well that says it all.

I would of thought looking at the ladder positions in the last three years he's failed .

My opinion is when you have a coach with a record of 11 wins from 50 games thus far you tread cautiously into handing out contract extensions.
2 years extension for mine at this stage of the year wasnt needed its not as though he was going to be in high demand at seasons end.

I would have seen what happens from now until the end of the season and possibly given him a one year extension with a clause that if you play finals in 2018 then a longer extension would be looked at.
As PN points out we have gone down this path before giving coaches contract extensions that all and sundry have regreted.
I stlill believe a coach should be judged by his win/loss record and 3 maybe 4 years is plenty of time to have made your mark and get a team playing finals.

I was miffed also to read that the Football manager believes" with the game plan a fit list he will be able to guide us to finals"
I think its going to take a whole lot more than that.

As you would be well aware of the depth in the WAFL has dropped dramatically in the last few years across all clubs and that probably has a lot to do with the two AFL expansion clubs. You would also be aware those two previous mentioned coaches had far more talent at their disposal that Spalding has. At least he has red and black running through his veins and for that we should be grateful. That's my opinion.

He has Red and Black running through his veins does he? Is that why he went to East Fremantle when he came back from Carlton!

The board have got their problems that is for certain. They don't seem to realise that nobody has ever coached for five years in the WAFL without making the finals -- ever. The closest, I think was George M over at WP in the late 1980s. Earl won't either, the PFC punters won't allow it. The same applies to Wiley over at Moss street.

The great Ken Armstrong lastted only three years at Subi, even though he was a double premiership coach; SD perserved with John Todd, a premiership coach, whom made the finals in his fourth year.

Just a quick correction after consultting Ric's site; The first coach of CL back in the 1920 did five or six years; George only did three years at WP, sorry Falcons guys; a few have lastted four years without making the finals, includding Chris Waterman in his Peel days.

Only because his brother switched to EF. Can't blame him wanting to play with his brother. Get over it.
