And yet McMahon's illustrious career gets your nod of approval hey TFAF!! :woohoo:

If McMahon doesn't improve on last year BH I would have to say he will be gone. I am an optomistic person and have not ruled out we will make the finals though. I will be at Perths next 5 games and will comment more on out coach then. I do find it humerous that most football posters always want to hang a coach tough. From Malthouse, to Hselby to Worsfold Neesham. NOt to many posters do much around the clubs they support but often want ot denigrate people around their club that do. to Are you sure you are not a closet Perth supporter? All the best Damien for now and I would love it if Perth and he reached the final. People are people and have families and finances to control and bills to pay and jerks get on here and call for his head casus he upset there little boy etc. We will all be dead soon enough and for long enough give people a break and some understanding

Footballers get the arse at the end of every season and they have to deal with finding a new way to make a living. How is that different for a coach? Not many footballers have a trade or profession to fall back on. He can go back on the tools and earn a handsome 6 figure salary no problem. He should be thinking about that right now and fall on his sword. It seems in your mind the individual is bigger than the club.

I was suggesting having someone in the role in a position that was similar to that which Percy was talking about. These days it is extremely important to get the development system right and make sure that you develop your own kids. Yes some will get drafted and good on them but there are always players that will only be state footballers.

One thing that I have noticed is that Perth don't seem to be able to develop their kids as well as other clubs do and I am talking about the players that don't get drafted. Can anyone tell me the last five players to play 100 games for the PFC?

Scott Siekierka, Kade Lang, Troy Cook, Brendan Jones and Chris Bossong were the last five from memory.

Compare it to Claremont, one of the best sides of the last 10 years. David Crawford, Trinity Handley, Clancy Rudeforth, Luke Blackwell, Chad Jones, Michael Warren, Ian Richardson, Rory Walton, Anthony Jones and Jaxon Crabb.

Mr AFL from those Claremont players you listed Blackwell (Mazenod-Kalamunda), Crabb (Bunbury) & Warren (South Bunbury) all came through the Swan Districts zone!

Did Blackwell play colts at Swans before he was drafted? I think he may have.

I don't think Warren or Crabb did. The overall point is that whether or not players start at your club at the age of 13 or come from another zone and don't get to your club till the age of 18 the development of players at the Claremont Football Club and even a club like Swans who have Tallan Ames, Justin Simpson, Tony Notte etc... seems to be a lot better than at Perth.

If we are to have any success going into the future then getting these development systems in place to make sure the kids can be the best they can be is vital. Yes this will mean some get drafted but for the ones that don't there will always be the Ames, Simpson's, Crawford's, Handley's and Richardson's to fall back on.

I see Ames is from Trinity Aquinas, how good he would of looked in the red n black haha.

And just on the development of kids BH, I must admit I did like the look of Swans list in the budget on the weekend. Three 5-point players and two 3-point players. All the rest were 1-point players.

Amesy went to Trinity but is Bassendean JFC boy..

and 2 of those 5 point players were from Perth.

Swans performances this year have surprised me as a lot of those 1 point players have been in the reserves for a few years without really dominating and our reserves rarely make the finals but they deserve creidt for sticking with the club, getting themselves fit and taking their chances at league level..

The players of 3, 5, 10 points are always going to come from other clubs. My point was that these young players have come on and it's good to see that there's a team out there mainly made up of 1-point players.

Mark Swans pushed colts players up to the reserves in the second half of the season last year didn't they?

yes, the club identified that with the alignments coming in we would lose a few blokes and they probably also knew some players would move on or get drafted so our colts boys got pushed up to reserves like C.Blakely, Anderson, Grescos who have all played league this year.

our major improvment though has come from the guys who were mainly reserves players - N.Blakely, Cary, Jukes, Burnham, Latch, Riddoch, Kirkup, Manton, Broad and the much fitter Faulkner and Boekhurst.
all those guys have served their time in the lower grades and are playing good footy.

Those blokes are playing very good football. I think that there is merit in playing the kids you think will be around in the long run once you can't make finals.

you can push them up to reserves earlier anyway, you could start pusing your decent colts up now and you never know you may find a league footballer or 2 quicker than you thought if they are physically up to it.
Swans have started promoting their colts already to reserves, they had two 17 year olds in reserves the last 2 games.

That's an idea that I would like to see happen at Perth. Even playing some of them in the league side. If it brings there development forward by 4-6 months then I'm all for it.
