I left my heart to the sappers round Khe Sanh
And the soul was sold with my cigarettes to the black market man
I've had the Vietnam cold turkey
From the ocean to the Silver City
And it's only other vets could understand.......etc

DF,  now I know you have lost the plot mate.....bogans living in the affluent leafy suburbs of Applecross, Ardross, Attadale, Palmyra etc....??....dream on fella...

Bassendean was always Boganville.  I think he’s referring to Dole City.
Either way, playing an AFL reserves side won’t be easy as the Sharks found out.
Hahaha...missed this thread earlier and your definition of a bogan is a classic Mike.  :-). You are correct 58.  It will always be Bogandean for Swans and Centrelink Park or the ChunderDome for Peel.

Fair go you guys.
We are only one game off 2nd spot.
Top 3 still there for the taking.
We only just beat a team half filled with ammo players. We are gone for another year. We may get two wins this year if we get WCE on another vulnerable week.

We are gone for a lot longer than a year. As was discussed at length in a thread last year, zones are the key to building sustained success. We can't recruit our way to success. We would need 6 elite players, players of the calibre of Keitel, Bolton, Delahunty. Our chances of having enough money or points to attract that many top players is about nil. And if we did, why on earth would top state level players for us? Plus, our recruiting policy seems based around picking up ex AFL players who have nothing left to give. On that note, I see that Smith has another hamstring issue. It's not his fault, of course, but maybe it's time to stop picking him. If nothing else, we save on match fees.

Our colts seem much better than last year's hapless crop, but we need to avoid losing too many to the draft, and then avoid losing those who lose motivation if not drafted. Even then, it will take a minimum 3 years (and more like 5) to get a decent core of 8-12 colts players to a level playing consistent league footy. We have to accept the reality that we are likely to go back to where we were from 2014-2017 where we won 15 games out of 80. And the more that both Perth and WCER remain anchored to the bottom two spots on the ladder, the greater the pressure will be to enter an alignment, and the weaker our resolve to resist. It all seems pretty bleak to me at the moment.

Looks like Perth have a good un in young Coen Livingstone in the colts.....underage but already standing at 197cm.....more then holding his own so far....though as Ted says, the real goodies get drafted whilst the others hopefully stay motivated and give back to the club over time.

Looks like it will be a  Perth v the real Peel this weekend.....good time to play Peel with all those COVID outs for Freo.....

There is no way we will beat Peel in Mandurah. Their outs only mean that we may be able to keep the margin respectable.

Ted, you and I both have the same dismal outlook on Perth Football Club's 122 year history. We have the most dismal record of all the traditional clubs, even clubs like Swan Districts (est 1934) and Claremont who joined the league in (1925).

We won our first flag in 1907, albeit on protest. We then had to wait 48 years for the second in1955. Yes were were consistently "around the place" all those years which were predominately headed by East Freo, South Freo, East Perth and West Perth.
In the mid 60s we appointed some very forward looking people both on and off the field and produced 3 successive flags. During those years we also had a dominant junior council and a leader and developer of a plethora of very talented players.
Eleven years later we had a new forward thinking administration and again a coach and off field personnel well ahead of their time and enjoyed 2 more flags. Alas we have been nowhere near any success other than in Mal Brown's days when we managed a prelim final in 1986.
The Junior Council today covers older suburbs in contrast to other clubs which have new, vibrant areas and lots of young players. There are fewer clubs in our junior zones than we used to have due to their demographic. The population has changed. Our country zones have provided some very good players some of whom have gone on to AFL careers.

Can we rise from the ashes to revisit those greater heights in the future.?  I have serious doubts that we can considering our zones and the passing of time.
We can try, but only if we use the blueprint provided by those who steered us to lofty heights in the 50s, 60s and 70s. Then we need to find the right people to get the job done.
We cannot go on with the same mediocre returns that we have had for the past 45 years,
