Teams are up, with a few surprises. Eyres is playing reserves and Reid named as starting league ruck. Can't say I agree with that. I assume they want someone more mobile, but is Reid up to it? Yeo and McPartland still in the twos, along with Rogers.

The league team has named an extended squad again. Quill is named at HFF and Davis is back in. Extended bench is Bird, Gibba, Colledge, Grey, Clark, Hayward, Sing and Hitchcock. Bird and Hitchcock are also named in the twos, so I assume they are not in line for the league team. I would have thought it's previous obvious that Sing and Hayward are the other two to get cut. Busher is out, presumably injured.

What to make of all that? Overall, seems to be a similar quality team to last week's team. Hopefully some of the guys that returned last week will be better for the run and turn in a better performance, especially Masten and Grey. It is going to be a fine day, so if SF have learned anything from watching us lose to S and EF, they will be instructed to run, spread, play on and expose us for pace and work rate. That said, we do seem to match up on SF ok, so here's hoping.

Higgins is an out for them as expected. It will be interesting to see how Reid does against Hamish Free. Neither of them have set the world on fire in the ressies, but at least Reid seems to get a bit more of it than Eyres and DBW and tackles and marks it more (at that level anyway).

Gibba back and Fraser + Grey should be better for their run last week. I'm not sure about Reid  but did have 28 hitouts last week  and 34 v WP ressies. At least he can be handy around the ground  though last week I thought he looked a bit of a novice. He did kick two goals on debut a few weeks back.
Interesting Aussie Davis named on a wing. I hope he has no clangers, but his run with the ball is very good so will be hoping that he can deliver it well going forward.
Higgins out for SF helps our cause.
Busher a big loss. Strange that he is not on the injured list and Gibba is.

Smokey, I don’t think Higgins being out helps our cause at all. Eyres always at least draws even with him or takes the honours. I would have been shocked if Eyres was dropped and Higgins was playing. Surely horses for courses. Having said that if South are going to play a mobile leaping ruckman then I understand the decision to drop Eyres. The Busher injury curse seems to have risen again with his return to Lathlain. He was having treatment on his hip during the match against EF and I thought he would be doubtful this week.

Unbelievable isn’t it? Maybe Claremont supporters can shed some light on Bushers games missed due to injury? Just bad luck Haydn really takes care of himself in his preparation, probably more professional than a lot of AFL players. He is a credit to himself. He is a massive out. I’d feel better if both Gibba and Taylor were back in.

Why isn’t Mathew Taylor on the injured list if he isn’t available? I’m happy to see Quill get a chance. Has struggled to string games together since crossing over from the dark side. Hopefully he gets a fair bit of the pill and can hit the scoreboard.

I’m worried why Brady Grey is down on the interchange and Hayward is named? Got a feeling Brady is under a cloud.

The bench has been finalised. So looks like Giblett in for the injured Busher, Quill in for Rogers, Hayward in for Clark, Reid for Eyres and Davis for Sing. We desperately need this. Mossy has an eye on the future I think. Go Dees.

South’s by 6 goals

Hayward 2 games for 15 possessions (didn’t play last week) that’s an interesting inclusion

Lack of pace is still a problem, all over the ground.

Reid in the ruck (not for me based on his first league game)

Hope I am wrong about the result

Lose and finals are mathematically still possible

Agree, I don't see what Hayward has done at league or reserves level to justify inclusion. Maybe there are things coaches see that fans don't = maybe he is good defensively, or at tackling, or whatever, but you can't have a midfielder getting less than 10 touches a game. Rogers had to be dropped, and it has been made clear to Eyres already that he is no longer our preferred ruckman. But Clark can feel aggrieved to be dropped for Hayward.

The news on Busher doesn't sound good. The injury us described as "quite debilitating" and he will be out for an "indefinite period."
