That is a critical administrative procedure I would have thought.
A head needs to roll that is bullshit.
Having said that not a huge financial loss.
We were prepared to take $8k in holding out for the season.
If it is the new CEO this is bullshit.

Cody Leggett’s bitter clearance dispute ended in a fiasco when the long-kicking utility joined his target club East Fremantle because accident-prone Perth had inadvertently deregistered him.

The subject of a nine-month dispute during which Perth repeatedly refused to clear the talented utility player to the Sharks, saying it was a matter of principle that Leggett be held to his contract, the matter turned into a debacle this week when the Demons removed him from their primary playing list.
Leggett’s contract was voided once he was deregistered.

East Fremantle promptly registered the 24-year-old and intend to play him in their reserves scratch match against Claremont tomorrow morning.

They will pay Perth an $8000 transfer fee, well down on the $20,000 they offered the Demons when Leggett declared last year he wanted to join them this season.
Perth president Bob Shields confirmed that Leggett’s deregistration was an inadvertent administrative error.

“We will deal with it and be the stronger for it,” he said.
“We will take the transfer fee and get on with winning football games.”

Inadvertent or deliberate? A great strategy to bring this situation to an end. Otherwise why would East Fremantle pay $8000 for a deregistered player. Very decent of them!

There was way too much time and effort spent on this..I would have f@#$ed him off straight away grabbed the 20 grand and got on with worrying about the players who did want to play for us.
If Marty Atkins had still been at the club he would have copped it big time over this debacle.

Agree DF that is unacceptable, someone needs their arse kicked. I doubt 20k was ever offered, if it was it was probably just a thought bubble thrown around. It's very easy to tell a journo we offered them 20k. Unless I see evidence it was in writing from the EFFC to the PFC. Hopefully Cody holds EF to his contract and demands full pay, no Covid-19 excuses. They are cashed up bogans now after the begging plate was overflowing in the end with all those cashed up Subi supporters flaunting their wealth.

Very true DD.....unless I hear those tapes of Buffalo whispering half back flank naughtiness into Legetts ear or that contract for rent free accommodation, I like you will doubt all what has been supposedly said.....and not said.

let's just be sensible and wait till STT gets that link confirming wether or not Leggett is indeed an EF player...or not.

Just remember this post when you are crying like a little baby about me having a crack at subi.

where in my post did I have a crack at Perth STD? I just stated the facts as I read them and that it was a debacle for Perth....or is it a good result for Perth in your mind?

IMO PFC were absolutely right to stand firm on the principle of not releasing a contracted player.
Having said that.....a little perspective.
1. Forget the $20k. We were never going to get that amount given the stance taken on contracted players.
2. Leggett was never going to play for Perth again.
3. Perth were never going to get more than $8k given that we were standing firm on the said principle. We will now just get it 12 months earlier.
4. PFC forfeited the moral high ground taken on contracted players with a simple administrative error that should not have occurred.
5. Bob Shields has said that the club will deal with it and so it must and do so quickly and decisively and then move on and be stronger.

Good to see he'll be playing footy in 2020. To good a player to be lost to the WAFL.

He was never going to be at Lathalin in 2020 so we move on.

But this one can go in the pantheon of classic PFC fkups next to Catalano's inexplicable renege to vote Peel in, the David Robbins fiasco, Toddy's promise to coach etc etc. We've got a proud tradition of fking ourselves over.

Spot on Dazz. Sadly over 40 odd years both on and off the field.
