I thought he declined McInnes' approach.

Doesn’t say in the article. Does say that transfer fees may drop in 2021 and Leggett is worth 8k. Also says Perth paid 6k for Quill

What should be of grave concern to everyone is mentioned topic is still doing the rounds! :(
I seem to recall same topic written on these very pages previously and apparently Perth footy club were not interested before.
What's changed!?
Due to the fact this story has resurfaced is a factor of four things. Either (a) some-one is simply stirring the pot, (b) person/ persons at Perth footy club trying to make it happen, (c) big business sticking their nose in & pushing for it, or (d) the more than 9 million dollar guy is wanting it to happen.
The fact Perth footy club officials have not simply came out and dismissed the story is also speaking volumes!

What's changed is we are looking at a radically revamped WAFL in 2021.

The big change is the list reductions for AFL teams so WC will not have a stand alone WAFL team and will be looking for a sucker club to align with to dump their leftovers. You Perth members and supporters need to get a petition going to force your boards hands into declaring their position. I'll sign it.

Perth is the obvious target for them but they would also give EP another try. The only sensible solution would be to go back to distributing their leftovers amongst the WAFL clubs via a draft, Freo to do the same.

The obvious target should be WP

Talk of AFL clubs cutting lists is just that, talk. As long as we get unlimited crowd capacity back next season I can’t see that happening so long as the money from 7 and Foxtel remains the same. 7 has already committed until 2024.

We know clubs get bad runs with injuries and at current list numbers clubs get to the point of playing just about every player on their list so I can’t see how clubs could manage with lists of just 35

I reckon there’s a lot of scare mongering going on unless there’s a serious second wave or some other catastrophe I see things back to normal next year and let’s not forget a lot of clubs make big lossses every year but somehow they survive probably due to the excess money available in the game at the top end.

For those clubs it’s probably been a blessing but going forward there probably won’t be a big pool of money to bail those clubs out in the future. It will be a case of bye bye, see ya later, it was nice knowing you.

WC worked so hard to have their own reserves WAFL team I can’t see them abandoning that now.

The revised Ch7 deal to extend to 2024 was discounted around $150 million I read with interest due to factors like the lost games this season etc.
I daresay if the top end paid players want to keep their exorbitant salaries that sky rocket year on year then it will have to be at the expense of something or someone eg lists dropped from 45 to 40 or less, coaches reduced etc.

Fair enough I can understand a discount on the TV rights deal because this season has been severely compromised but the fact remains regardless of finances no way AFL clubs can get through a season with only 35 on their list unless the AFL gives them open slather on second tier comps to pluck a player out when they need it.

DD your on the money re dropping lists to 35, if it happens they wont be able to resist letting the AFL teams rape and pillage 2nd tier comps at will.

Im not sure lists will be reduced to as low as 35 but 38-40 are a real possibilty.
That would force these clubs to start taking more ready made footballers rather than taking a speculative punt on these athletic 18yo kids who are quite often then left on the scrapheap.
But lifting the draft age at least to 19 is another topic altogether that should happen.
