Just got my membership renewal last night, they now have a $1000 one off life membership fee..not too good value if your old..lol

sounds like a desperate attempted to grab some badly needed cash.

I paid $1000 for life membership at Laurie Potters years ago and look where that went....life doesn't necessarily mean for life

Last year East Fremantle offered a ten year "Jack Sheedy" category membership for 10 years @$1000. About sixty members signed up for this offer!

Swans went down this path when broke under Bill Walker and Brian Close and it was call "Member for Life""

It was much less than $1000 but lasted only about five years when all benefits were withdrawn.

Seem to remember Subi had a Member for Life category many years ago now for $500. That was when a membership cost about $25 a year. if i had taken it up i would probably be in front now, but didnt have a spare $500 at the time.

Everyone forgets one thing. It may only last 5 yrs,7 yrs, 10 yrs or whatever, but it's 1000 very valuable contributions to your club that needs it. Well, some clubs do....

Grassroots I bought a Lifetime membership to Swans; it cost $300 and as far as I am aware it has never been withdrawn.
