yep...good topic LS. Notwithstanding Pell is complicit in the abuse of kids from all reports or he knew about it at least, it also makes you realise just how much misery religion has been responsible for historically and also now.

Interesting about the Catholic church. I'm reading Fortunate Son by John Fogerty and he reflects his time at st Marys Catholic Church where he wanted to play his guitar, that was no no and always sent to detention. The Dean was Brother Neil and he was shagging the receptionist and in typical Fogerty style, he wrote, IT WAS ANOTHER SLAT GONE OUT OF THE WHITE PICKET FENCE THAT IS THE CATHOLIC CHURCH.

If the Catholic church were for real on this horrid issue, the Pope would order Pell back to Australia to give evidence.
Religion..... a hide away for paedoes.

I hold absolute contempt and disgust towards the filfthy dirty pigs of human beings who have in any way abused children let alone for those who help sweep their actions under the carpet. I would like to explore your last sentence there Anchor in asking you do you think that these beasts hide away in religion or that they are indeed created by being involved in these self righteous religious entities???

agreed....seems to me most religions are guilty of praying on the innocent and the weak let alone the continued abuse of children from those within the field of religious preaching. God has a lot to answer for if these are his foot soldiers

Bit of a broad sweeping statement there BC, not sure about you but I attended CBC Freo and cannot speak more highly for the catholic education system, they have also been very instrumental in football development in this state. The likes of CBC, Trinity Aquinas, St Louis have produced many players, not to mention the Victorian Colleges.

I guess just about every conflict on the planet in the last 100 years has had religious overtones in one way or the other...throw in abuse of kids in the Catholic church and I'm not sure the good outweighs the bad. My 3 kids had a Catholic school education and I'm not 100% certain they're any better for it than say a kid who went to AppleX or Rossmoyne.

I am - The well hashed story of religion causing wars has been debunked that many times its not funny, only a very small pecentage of wars actually were.

The catholic church is still the largest non government provider of charity, health and education in the world, our rule of law, justice system, government universities, probably our whole way of life really all has its roots in Western Christendom...

Though Applex and Rossmoyne are both highly rated state schools, how they have gone at Kwinana SHS?

The vast majority of child abuse occurs within the family unit, usually by fathers and step fathers, brothers and uncles...Insitutional abouse although a terrible crime makes up a small part of it, by the way secular bodies have been found to be just as bad, have a look at the state run Katanning Hostel, State School teachers have a bad record as well.
