Oh well that was $5 Billion well spent..

Just like Ford they are taking the money and bolting in 2017.

Was always going to happen I guess!

All ways had Holden cars... My first car was a 1971 LC Torana, and the wife's a 1972 LJ Torana. Currently drive a VX Equipe which gets me to work 10min there and back. Wife has a VE SV6 for taking the kids to school but these will be our last.

GM have a bad habit of landing utter crap on our shores - Vaxhaull Viva, Camira, Piazza, Astra, Barina, Jimmy, Jackaroo, Calibra and more recently the Daewoo sourced Viva and Epica.

Looking at Chevrolets current range of cars, things aren't much better.

No more Holdens for me, as I don't want an over priced cheaply finished Daewoo with a chrome Lion badge superglued to the grille.

Anyone else in the same frame of mind?

Spot on Mike. Apart from my first car, I have been Holden, Holden, Holden. We always said that if you wanted a car that was nice to drive around the city roads, a Ford would do it, but if you wanted a car for Aussie conditions, it had to be a Holden. That was then, this is now. I drive a Euro car because Holdens ain't Holdens any more.

And it's not only the people at the GMH plant losing their employment, but all the service industries will cut back on staff too. Scrap metal merchants buying the scrap from the factory will need to shed staff. People employed in GM's spare parts division etcetera. Apparently the company says 2,900 people will lose their job from the 2 factories. And up to 60 thousand people indirectly will lose their employment. However I'm sure some of those will find employment elsewhere in other industries.

I was a loyal Holden man for years , my first ever car was a HX Kingswood, I was always really proud of it, then a VL and then a VP, the VP blew up on me so that was they end of my Holden love affair, like many Australians I drifted away so many better and cheaper options out there, now drive a Mazda Australia's number one selling car, Commodore once number 1 for years dropped way down the list.

Holden has lost $732 Million over the last few years and that is despite Taxpayers throwing $2 Billion at it, you just can't keep that going for ever.

In the end just like the Swan Brewery when you ask who killed it, we did, we stopped buying it.

There will be a lot more scrap. Just hand morning tea over looking the local wrecker and looking at the Daewoo's and Huyndai's sitting on the pile not even 5 years old.

I don't know why they don't start a real Australian car manufacturer here, lets face it both Ford and Holden have never really been Australian cars, both companies are American owned.

We do have the technology to manufacture a true Australian car from the ground up, with both Ford and Holden shutting shop we will also have the factories and facilities to do this, the company would be government owned and would keep every cent in Australia, with all the resources we have in this country it would be a very viable proposition..

The only thing we do not have are smart politicians, the country is run by idiots with no vision..
