I just heard that unfortunately former Australian cricket star Dean Jones has passed away from a massive heart attack in Mumbai, India at the age of only 59.
Was a fantastic batsman in both Test & One Day cricket who revolutionised one day batting for Australia in the mid 80s with hard running between the wickets and many 100s off the same amount of balls and a great outfielder in the deep.

R.I.P Deano

Just heard the news myself also. Was a childhood hero of mine Deano, beautiful batsman to watch and was a tough Aussie.
He nearly died on the pitch in India in his epic 1986 innings so something quite eerie and ironic that his innings has ended there.
Absolute legend, RIP Deano and hope he’s having a beer with Hookesy somewhere.

Extremely sad news about Dean Jones' premature passing.
As you say, Tiger of old, it's ironic that Dean passed away in India.
His 210 in the stiffling Chennai conditions has gone down in cricket folklore, both because of his courage and the fact it was only the second-ever tied Test.
R.I.P., Deano.

Tragic news. Deano is remembered for many things - that knock in September 1986 in the second tied test will surely sit on top.

Such an exciting batsman to watch and I saw some great knocks by him live, the best was a one day century against NZ at the WACA on a stinking hot day. But as others have said, his monumental innings in the test in India will go down in history as one of the most courageous innings ever in cricket.
Thoughts are with his family, the whole cricket community and also Brett Lee who desperately tried to save him.

I remember him scoring 2 x 100s in 2 consecutive days Mike during the Americas Cup Challenge series here at the WACA in the summer of 1986/87 against ENG & PAKI from memory.
He was right at the top of his game at the time.
Aside from his extraordinary 210 in that Madras tied test in 86 the 216 he scored against the WI in the summer of 1988/89 at Adelaide Oval against the fearsome foursome of Ambrose, Marshall, Walsh & Patterson was a top innings and helped by a cameo 72 from his great mate Merv down the other end where they put on a big late order partnership.

A huge shock. I was on my way home from work and tuned into 6PR and heard the commentator ask a caller “and what is your memory of Dean Jones”? I’m scratching my head saying why would he ask that? Then opened my phone and The West app. I couldn’t believe it.

A massive loss to cricket. Dean Jones was a real character and an integral part of the revival of Australian cricket when we hit rock bottom. There was no better batsman in the Australian team IMO and no better batsman to watch than Dean Jones in that era.

I read that it was actually in the hotel lobby where he suffered the heart attack and Brett Lee was there and administered CPR until the ambulance arrived. I wonder if they have defibrillators over there? I’m guessing not in the hotel but you would assume in the ambulance.

Apparently he was exercising in the hallway of the hotel just a couple of hours prior. R.I. P Dean Jones. Thank you for the way you went about your cricket. Always entertaining and never boring.
Get on your bike.
