Again with the benefit of now being able to look back and know which players worked out or not but since 2010 we have been in a position to draft Jack Darling, Alex Fasolo, Jeremy McGovern, Elliot Yeo, Brendon Ah Chee, Rory Lobb and Mitch McGovern. All are WA players.

Freo haven't been able to lure a big fish for years now and its starting to become more than obvious. What ever happened to Hogan?

Bennell a big fish..lol no one else wanted him..

As for the Eagles, I would hardly call Jetta a big Fish, he spent most of his time back here hardly getting a game.

Eastern states team I think, don't really think WC or Dockers will go for him.

Port Adelaide good trade period continues with Jack Watts joining the Power. It also looks like the Dees will pick up some of Jack's payments at Port.Like Travis Cloke at the Western Bulldogs.

anchorman wrote: You can't take them all, and I am sure that most of those you mention were taken before at least Fremantle had a chance to take them.
There would have been some we,Fremantle ,could have taken, but maybe at the time, they weren't the type of player that time.
It is no good taking a back man if you need forwards, no good taking a rover if you need a ruckman.
Where did you read that Lyon doesn't rate WA boys!!! I have never heard that.Maybe you listen to too much 6PR and that Hack on there.
the recruiting department would do as much work on WA boys as any of the other clubs in the AFL.Do you think they are stupid enough to only look for those kids from out side of WA!!!!!Gemmee a break.

Funny enough it was said at a footy panel luncheon. Karl Langdon was the first to mention it and usually I don’t take much notice to what he says. However both Paul Hasleby, Glenn Jackovich and Mark Readings didn’t argue to much with what he was saying.

As I said it’s easy to look back and say we should have picked this player and yes you are right that certain needs at times take precedence when it comes to either trading or drafting. However I don’t think Fremantle as a club has been particularly good at either over the last 23 years.

And apart from McCarthy I can tell you that those others have all been able to be selected by Freo with the picks that they have had.

In 2010 we recruited Pitt (20), Michie (44) and in the rookie draft we selected Roberts (20). Jack Darling (26), Alex Fasolo (45) and in the rookie draft Jason Johannisen (39) and Jeremy McGovern (44) were taken.

In 2011 Sheridan, Crozier were taken before Elliot Yeo and Bradley Hill in the draft.

I don’t need to go through the rest as you get my point.

From what I’m hearing about Matera and his training habits I don’t think I want him at the club. Don’t know if Ballantyne is the answer either, at best he has one year left in the AFL. The only reason I can see that the team wants Matera is that he has similar stats to Ballantyne and that he is younger. So where Ballantyne has probably one year left. Matera could have five or six years.

Drums are now beating very loudly that a deal to trade Bryce Gibbs to Adelaide is being worked on. I was very disappointed with the way Melbourne discarded Jack Watts for a 2nd round pick. They obviously didnt value him much which is strange for a guy who has played 150 games. It does expose the circus that this trade period has evolved into.
