You have to remember that McCarthy just signed a contract extension last season.
If i was GWS i wouldnt just give him up either ,you are trying to reruit a contracted player which is a little harder to do.
I also suspect Freo are not willing to let a good player go in a player swap.

McCarthys manager makes me laugh. He has asked for the GWS coach and CEO to meet with McCarthys parents in Perth, and better understand how homesick he is. Why should they? Correct me if Im wrong but as his manager, he was the one (along with McCarthy) who just negotiated a 2 year extension at GWS ?? When did the homesickness suddenly come into play?

Its all a joke, McCarthy just needs to man up and play football. GWS should not have to hand him over to Freo for a few half arsed picks in a draft that is known to be quite weak this year. Unless Freo put a key player on the table, which you can guarantee they wont, they need to get over it.

I seem to vividly recall when Clive Waterhouse was pleading on radio to be traded from Fremantle back to South Australia when his father was gravely sick. And Fremantle dug their heels in and flatly refused his request. He was never released.

Absolutley spot on , he signed with GWS quite recently , as you rightly say its ridiculous now to cry for a move home. Get on with the club your at and think about it in 2 yrs,

Your right about giving him up for half baked trades as well, they would be crazy to do that, trades are pie int e sky and nothing beats a proven player ready to go, GWS hold all the cards on this one, I would say they have asked for a named player of the ilk of Mundy to even think about it, until then its not even near a deal.

And as you say there is nothing new about clubs with contractual agreed players closing the door on moves.
