Yeah, agree but Jetta peaked a couple of years ago, the last two years have been a bit ordinary tbh, Swans did well with that one I reckon, Bennell who knows , but one thing is for sure no other club was touching him with a barge pole, could be ugly, could be good, but he isnt what the shockers really need , they need a replacement for pavlova badly, really badly.

Agree, thier midfiled as such in the past years hasnt been a problem, Pav is on or past his useby date, the have no other "power forward" in their squad.

If they don't get Mccarthy they may have to use next year to develop Taberner or Hannath ( or both) in that sort of role. They also have Apness who was injured for most of this year, so they may have to throw him in as well to see if he is up to it. Aaron Black from North Melbourne may also be a possibility for a trade, but he would be more of a 2nd marking forward rather than the main man.

I reckon that's why Pav hasn't come out and said he's pulling the pin just yet - leaving his options open. They may need him for 1 more year.

But getting Bennell, providing he stays clean and plays a full season will make it easier for Pav in that he can play a role as a forward and add to the Ballantyne , Walters forward set up. Bennell adds another dimension up forward.
As for who got the better deal... well I guess we will have to wait until the end of next season to find out.
I think Jetta may have gone past his very best. Still a damn good player though.
Bennell has still got the best ahead of him, providing he stays out of trouble.
I wonder why they traded out Sinclair though. He was a real force for the Toasters I reckon. Did they need another rout side runner?
Now they are trying to recruit another second rate ruckman.

Thing is a/man ya need a big strong durable marking forward these days. I just dont think Pav can play that role anymore, thats the problem.

Agree with that, Pav could, however, still play a roll as an impact player off the bench as long as we can get a big forward. With McCarthy looking unlikely Casboult would be a handy big forward who could create a lively target and he can take a grab.
If they don't pick up a big forward then I think Bennell will alow Fyfe to work forward more and we will score more but not enough to get that extra 2 - 3 goals we need.

Casboults kicking was ok this year I like the fact that he can crash packs and take marks and yes Pav is still a good footballer

Spot on mate, thats it in a nutshell, he is hanging on a phone call to say its OK mate we have a new option. But its not looking flash atm, he may be forced to go around again, would be a bloody long hard year for him, a season to long, as he was really struggling by the end of this season.

I agree with you on that JB. But I think a lot of times during the season Pav was playing the player who was making space for the other forwards, but our mids didn't seem to get the message.
He certainly isn't the player he was, but is still a good player who can still give something to the side. Other around him have to lift and take over. So far we have yet to find one who is willing. Fyfe would be that player and more than likely will be if Bennell stands up and performs.
Casboult may be the player we chase late if the McCarthy deal can't be done. But his kicking is very suspect to say the least.
Strange how clubs seem to find it easy to trade players to and from other clubs, but Fremantle don't seem to get the same level of respect that others get.
Are our negotiators that bad or is there more to it?

You have to remember that McCarthy just signed a contract extension last season.
If i was GWS i wouldnt just give him up either ,you are trying to reruit a contracted player which is a little harder to do.
I also suspect Freo are not willing to let a good player go in a player swap.

You also have had few players from other clubs over the past few seasons, its just some of them havent worked out,Jack Anthony,Colin Sylvia,Trent Croad,Chris Tarrant etc..
