It seems to me Time For A Flag that you would be happier, even the comp. was dominated by a mere two teams and sixteen boring as watching paint dry teams, just so long as everyone is paying there way.
I believe you have taken your eye off the ball mate.

2 plus 16 equals 18 Shwaborn.

I am suggesting 15 teams in the AFL. Each team playing the other 14 twice - once at their home ground once at the oppositions home ground. Was it a little difficult to follow.

BTW what's with the full stops everywhere??

Season not long enough for you buddy?
Don't tell me that they just need to cut the pre-season competition (I would write comp. but you don't understand english abbreviations), most clubs fill those teams with newbies. Which is good for their development, something you probably wish to take away.
Why change the amount of teams when the competition is clearly in its prime?

Too many teams in Victoria, being without a team called Perth and the unevenness of the fixtures sees the comp far from its peak.

The AFL can not keep wasting marketing money on nm, footscray, and st kilda.

The current 9 games a week sees 3 to 4 of them with little interest. These are the games that have the above mentioned teams playing (look at the crowds these teams attract - it is undeniable)as well as GWS and to a lesser extent GC although I understand people do watch GC just to see Ablett.

A couple of questions TFAF:

1. Why does there need to be a team called Perth? West Coast Eagles have been one of the best clubs on and off field for the past 28 years. WA is a lot bigger than just Perth, hence why they are called West Coast. And Fremantle are just starting to get it right both on field and off over the last 5-6 seasons.

2. How will dropping North Melbourne, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs back to the VFL make for a strong second tier comp?

1)The game must be known as a national comp. By that Sydney must play against Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, followed by other largely identifiable cities like, Gold Coast, Port Adelaide, Fremantle and Geelong.

WA is a lot bigger than Perth and I agree the reason that West Coast were not named Perth from their inception. However like a hell of a lot to do with West Coasts inception the big picture was not looked at. The main picture been let's make a true national comp. The WAFL should have thought long term about WA footy (and indeed Australian footy) and either realised that we would be entering another team soon or that they should think less about beating SA to the party and more about what's best.

2)The VFL I conceed was where the larger interest lied and where the larger attendances partook in the game. It is evidenced by the fact that the vast majority of people from around the Aussie footy states had a local team and a team from Victoria that they kept a cursory eye on. However this cursory eye has become the almighty eye and there was and never should be any need for that.

Having these 3 Melbourne teams return to the VFL and lifting that comp while taking their dead weight off the AFL has the ability to return the state of footy in Australia to everybody liking two teams - their local team that they go to every week for games and during the week for training and community etc and their big corporate team that their local boys can aim at.

The Perth Football Club wears Red and Black and trades as the Perth Football Club and plays in the wafl thats why West Coast cannot use the name Perth, pretty simple really.

Complete rubbish - Have you not heard of Manchester united and Manchester City. There would be no different in Perth Demons and Perth Eagles or closer to home Port Adelaide Magpies and Port Adelaide Power (the power being a terrible name I might add) Come on 30 + i expect a little better that this from an intelligent Perth Demon supporter

So Australia's biggest national sport, which is in the top 5 for annual match attendances of any sport on the planet, is not a true national sport?
Did I get that right?
One reason being because we don't have a WA team called Perth?

Do your homework mate you might find i'm right and that was the main reason way back then!!!
There was already a team named Perth!!!!!!!

After doing a bit of homework myself i found this, take it anyway you want, maybe it's i who should expect a little better from you!!
And C'Mon The Power and Magpies traded as the same...hence no conflict on the name Port Adelaide!

Perth Football Club in the WAFL wouldn't surrender their Perth name & club history even though they are Demons not Eagles. Seems its the same in all states with Brisbane Lions only getting Brisbane because the Brisbane Football Club has been defunct for so long.
