There is a huge difference between generalised stereotypes or Jokes about racial groups and personal racial vilification, which is what Goodes was subjected to last friday night and now again today by McGuire. Have a read of what Harry O'Brien said. There is a racial undertone in Australia, not the overt KKK stuff but very subtle and insidious and sometimes unconcious which rears its ugly head when incidents like this happen or when boat people are discussed. This is all about dehumanising people who are not the white majority and it has a lot of historical context. Many people of anglo saxon origins will vigourously deny this because they have never experienced the pain of being judged because of the colour of their skin and are therefore blind to it.

You make some strong points Mike, however this is getting out of hand. I'm surprised at Adam's reactions. He knows he is a highly respected pillar of our society and would have mainstream Australia respecting the man. If a 13 yr old girl can destroy him, then I am stunned. McGuire supported him, then made a comment that could have been taken both ways - not too sure what to make of that. My opinions are not formed blindly - let me assure you of that!!

Anglo Saxon could also be considered racist, and a miss used label. There is very little evidence that the wider population of the British Isles have Angle or Saxon blood lines.

Infact 90% of Australian males DNA suggests they are of more ancient native blood line blood lines.A native people desciminated against for 1,000's of years leading to genocide and global displacment far greater than some of the Australoid races.

We have our own story to tell... it didn't start 200 odd years ago...

Yes BH you are most definitely missing something. Given the historical treatment of the indigenous people of Australia over the last 200 odd years and given the referendum of 1967 and Mabo ruling of even more recent times it is indeed incumbent upon us as a nation to avoid references which relate to the supposed inferior intellectual capabilities of non-whites. As I mentioned in another post people should use Harry O'Brien's comments on AFL 360 last night as a very good insight into the problems we are facing at this point in time with respect to our treatment of minorities.

It also needs to be noted that the degradation of a minority, either verbally or physically, has a far greater impact than when that is targetted at a majority.

With respect to Eddie Maguire's comments; he will get his justified criticism for his comments. However, one should also take what he has said in the context of what he has done over his career. When that is done, one can get a truer indication of whether it is an aberration or typical of his behaviour.

As a counterpoint to Eddie Maguire's comments I would refer people to the last Media Watch programme and the comments made by Alan Jones on a regular basis.

I am disgusted at the 1mm thk skin some of us have. If one man gets called a fat bstd and another a black bstd, both completely the same type of abuse. I do not consider anyone a minority in this day and age. We have all been born in this generation with too many rights.

Dear Mr Swan42. The police and justice system are too afraid to question/ move on/ arrest, certain peoples in Freo on a daily basis. That is purely because in a reverse way, even the law nowadays is NOT EQUAL. Where does the notion of repsonsibilty for ones own actions come in?. Wierd thing is nowdays the race card is a GOLD PASS, and many people use it as such to abstain themselves from any responsibilty. All white mans fault AGAIN??? i assume
