There is absolutely no shade or shelter in the outer at all (at least they had some sheds before).
The new stand maybe new but the design is horrible as the roof is nowhere near big enough as the sun beams straight onto the spectators in the morning for the Colts and early Reserves and doesn’t shelter from the rain either other than the back walkway and maybe back row of seats.
The change rooms were nothing special either for a new facility as 42 has said Royalty For Regions Rushton Park leaves it for dead in all aspects.
Would be interested in TOOs thoughts as one of the few loyal Tigers supporters actively on ozfooty?

One of the reasons for that is the redevelopment was mainly concentrating on developing the land for housing. Which is fantastic for people lucky enough to purchase a unit. Little thought was probably given to crowds attending the Wafl match. I've only seen pictures of the new Claremont grandstand and it doesn't look right. As officialdom tell you, not many attend games nowadays, and that's another reason it wasn't high on the priority.[/quote

It has a capcity of 5000, if you could tell me the last time Claremont pulled over that at a home game Id like to know, the struggle to get 1000.

And it will not be getting any bigger,

Attendances are no longer a priority for WAFL clubs,

Perhaps you might like to compare and contrast the "Centre of Excellence" venue at Leederville as well?

Can you please advise me where this so called Centre of Excellence is , its purported to be at Leederville oval, but all I see is a modified Leederville oval, with a wood chip hill and a tendency for the playing surface to flood at even average rain, and a score board that I need bi nocs to read.

you got that right Baz...it desperately needs a bigger and better scoreboard and a lighting upgrade. night games at leederville are a joke as there's no way you can clearly make out players on the other side of the ground. also at least some seating and shelter in addition to the grass tiers on the outer wouldn't go astray either.

Exactly.
Then the question needs asking , who is this peelthunder anyway?
The new ground at Cockburn is currently not being used as far as I'm aware. With an expected 800 dollar a year membership fee, one would need to ask questions as to why not wouldn't they?

I have watched two WAFL games at Claremont Oval and on both occasions felt like I was looking at a public open space in a housing estate. Half expected someone to walk across the field with their dog. As far as footy is concerned it has zero atmosphere, no shelter and no outer to speak of. I hope Bassendean Oval never gets turned into something like this

Attendances should be a priority for the 7 Wafl clubs. Plainly the commission don't give a toss!
The Wafl is simply going to flounder and struggle along like it currently is if attendances don't start increasing.
Sad to be saying

My understanding being plans are already in the pipe-line mikeh.

the Claremont Oval concept is certainly one that doesn't appeal to me. I wouldn't be too keen on living right on a footy oval with balls banging into your walls and windows on occasions depending on which part your apartment is located along with whistles and crowd noise all day every second weekend and bright lights on training nights. I lived in an apartment in Beijing in 2007 and as we were the only residents on our section of the floor it was pretty good....but looking across at other apartment blocks and all the crap that goes with it...well you can leave me out.

terrible ground for supporters - no shade in summer or protection in winter..
they dont open the clubhouse for the colts game to go inside and watch if its raining..
not sure what you are talking about Bazza..

I use the facilities there for other reasons, and when I attended a game there I had no problems at all that you mention.

Bazza one wonders whether it was either a sunny day or a wet day when you attended this alleged footy match. If it was on a wet day and you didn't get wet one can only assume that you are indeed blessed because for us mere mortals attending a game at Claremont Oval on a wet day would result in getting wet.

From what I was told by Claremont supporters is that they ran out of money and had to reduce the size of the roof to such an extent it serves no useful purpose.

Whenever I go Claremont I have always watched the game from the Members Bar area, thoroughly enjoyable as well. Completely craps on Bassendean as a facility and business case. For a average crowd of 1300 most games of the year its more than adequate.

Well that unequivocally proves that you don't watch the colts because categorically and unambiguously would not be in the members area at that time of day.

I would also reiterate that if you were sitting in the seats and it was raining you WOULD GET WET.

"Centre of Excellence" = parliament speak for a ground that hosts two clubs and not just one - radical thinking back in 2002.

Although the lights aren't great there isn't really that many night games there so would hardly call the expense of those a priority - East Perth gave up on night games long ago when they saw the crowds did not get any bigger.

The scoreboard though is an embarressment and I am unsure where you point the finger there - although I do recall hearing that some Vincent councilors were quite miffed upon hearing complaint. Having read some council minutes in the past they seem to tolerate rather than embrace state league sporting clubs (including soccer) .

To be fair though I think they don't see an activity that draws at most 1000 people to their locality fortnightly during the relevant season as high on their list.

Exactly they wont be investing in an event that barely attracts 1000 people every week or so.
