That's not what he said, he said he didn't want a 11 team comp.

But the article does reveal the WAFC contingency for a 10th team , fielding a senior only side - that will be a plank nailed down over the top as far as expansion
What that does is force someone out if FremantleCockburn make their move , and the article revealed a bit of that as well

Yep that's right - itll be a stand alone WCE outfit only for a 10 team comp

Correct Southerner...when WCE flagged a stand alone team when EP cancelled the alignment the other week...Rosich came out and said he didn't have a problem with it as long as Freo could do same if the alignment with Peel went pear shaped. Unless my maths is wrong, 2 stand alone AFL reserves teams and 9 WAFL teams don't go into 10.

Southerner wrote: A merger between East Perth and Perth, Subiaco and Claremont or South Fremantle and East Fremantle would be needed should Fremantle want to enter their own team in the WAFL.

As West Coast prepare to nominate a standalone WAFL team next season after the dissolution of the alignment with East Perth, the WA Football Commission expected the Dockers might seek their own team in the coming years.

But the WAFC will not allow an 11-team competition due to the State league’s playing strength being diluted below an acceptable level.

“The league cannot go beyond 10 teams, so for a new team to come in, there either has to be a merger or a team has to go out,” WAFC chairman Murray McHenry said.

“We are OK with a 10-team competition with a bye in the reserves and colts.”

In an extreme irony, Peel, Swan Districts and West Perth — three of the teams under greatest financial pressure this decade — would not be considered for mergers because of their location in vital population growth corridors.

The only merger in WAFL history occurred in 1889 when Victorians and West Australians joined to form Metropolitans.

The new club survived for only two years before folding.

West Perth will meet the commission tomorrow to ask for a loan of about $300,000 to help them meet short-term debts while they attempt to improve their revenue stream.

But the Falcons will not be guaranteed a handout if they intend to use the loan to repay substantial debts to their landlord VenuesWest or the Australian Tax Office.

McHenry confirmed that one of the WAFC’s key roles was to assist WAFL clubs during times of financial trouble.

“Clubs live on the breadline and when one thing goes wrong they often need help,” he said.

“It is our job to help.

“We are involved with West Perth at the moment and this year there have been some heavy meetings with East Fremantle about their situation. We did the same with Perth last year.”

I would go as far as to say this is the WAFC end position as well - puts to bed a couple of items & opens up two truckloads of others , particularly that last paragraph

Just when one couldn't hold Gavin Taylor and the WAFC in more contempt we have the above.

There WAFL is in a state of flux but at least they are putting forward ideas and strategies that whilst we might not like or think will work they are at least doing something.

I know that listening to some of the more influential folk around EP one of the things they have been waiting on is a direction from the WAFC and where they see the game progressing or whatever over the next few years.

In my opinion WP have to be saved, Swans is on the right track and have been for a good few years now, Perth have the funds but there seems to be an issue with them being able to use it( it is all well and good to have the dosh but saving under the bed in a cake tin is .......) Souths will have to bail out EF in some form to enable there to be a strong Fremantle ( real Fremantle) presence. Claremont is an unknown to me so can't comment. Subiaco well it will be a case of watch and see over the next 5 years now the golden goose has fallen off the perch, that and schofield leaving will have an effect.

The biggest mistake will be to have the women taking the reserves spot, the game is appalling and sub standard.
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

There should only be one merger and that is Fremantle FC and Peel. It should be renamed the Fremantle Dockers and moved to Cockburn., i.e. no more Peel

The commission made a mistake now fix it.
