pretty simple Larry that the new supporters will club from each clubs local area as each club should be trying to position itself as a community club and should be supported by the WAFC/AFL as such.

AFL has reached saturation levels on tv now, the new stadium will also give it a greater focus in WA.

The WAFC should realise that we will never get the crowds we have had in the past and to keep the competition viable it needs to get grassroots support right in the schools and community to sell the WAFL as a good alternative to see live footy for a decent price.

there should be more of an incentive for WAFL clubs to play their own players and have limit of 6-7 players from outside your zone playing to encourage more local kids to play WAFL.

BH+Larry a summer comp might give us AFL Fans watching.Larry your right about the next generation of Wafl fans thats a massive problem on the horizon. We need to think outside the box to find ways to cash up the clubs to challenge $ubi.To be honest i will still support Subi over the alignment sides even if they win 5 n a row.

there's effectively a limit of players outside of zones now with the current points cap....maybe the cap should be reduced to put more onus on clubs developing local kids but doing so will definitely impact negatively on the standard of the competition which is not what we want.

what's not commonly known is that Subi hasn't made a great deal of coin from the AFL seats deal since the GFC. According to last years annual report the club is barely breaking even these days and struggles to sell all of its game day packages. Apparently Freo and West Coast are having similar troubles and you only have to look at crowd numbers at Domain on a weekly basis to understand it's not the cash cow it once was.

Looking around Leederville you won't drag any support from that area. Do all clubs have to move to suburban grounds perhaps. Or does that make the competition more a Sunday League type of competition.

depends if you want to encourage local people to join your club or not.
why would people from the biggest junior clubs going around in Kingsway and Sorrento Duncraig want to join a team based at Leederville ?
where is their identity with that team ?
its called Subiaco and is based in Leederville ?

hard decisions have to be made by the WAFC.

Thats true BC is been a shocking year for all footy in WA.(crowd wise)The massive decline of Freo has taken everyone by surprise.Subis deal when they moved from Subi oval will be the last time a Wafl club gets anything out of the AFL clubs.

Yesterday I had occasion to visit a primary school in the hills and met with a small group of Year 3 - 6 students who had attended their presentation night at the local junior football club on the weekend. During our discussion about football I asked what they could tell me about the WAFL competition. Not one response! How sad and depressing that a group of boys keen about Aussie Rules could not tell me anything about the WAFL! It would seem that based on this sample the WAFL and clubs have a major identity crisis.

Lowest Home and Away attendance since 2003, when it bottomed out.

Recovered and Peaked in 2009 and has fallen ever since , bar 1 year 2011.

Ave of nearly 2300 in 2009, looks like we are on track for losing about 1000 people on average per game going forward. demographics are destiny and the demographics are not good for WAFLs future in its current form.
