No other WAFL GF since 1986 had the mass general commercial media exposure that the 2010 SD 1 point victory over CL had and the remarkable performance of AK made the WAFL recognisable to the general public again with every form of the media congregating at the Basso celebrations in the week after to get interviews and it will probably take another long overdue SD GF victory (or Perth) to get anywhere near that media saturation again let alone how many non WAFL fans who were still talking about well into the 2010 Summer! :)

yes..it's all coming back to me...if I remember correctly it was the lead item on CNN that night, Sam Newman raved over it on the Footy Show, the all conquering bogans got a ticker tape parade through Midland and AK was named Aussie of the Year....how could we all forget.

Lmao , yep, BC , they were still talking about it in Budapest when I was there...

The deluded fools are pure comedy....

Don't knock the value of the ticker tape parade. They cut up and used 7 (yes 7) news papers and the parade was led by Bundygirl....true story :)

Interest was there between 08 and 2013 but the alignments are the single biggest reason attendances are down make no mistake!
East Perth as one of the bigger drawing clubs has been reduced to a shell of a club which is in fact West Coast masquerading as East Perth and their fans have left in droves as their club died. Peel have been a basket case now lifted to a fraudulent club thanks to alignment.
The wettest footy winter since the 70's is also a factor

Just because your team was going (drug assisted) well doesn't mean everyone else gave a toss. I saw no peak in interest in 2010 you should probably open your other eye.

You wouldn't see peak interest when at $ubiaco games now would you!

More interest in Subiaco games than Swans
S V FART 1278
Sudafed Districts V Perth 1144

Accepting the figures given above are correct, what a damning indictment that 1st vs 4th had exactly 134 more at the game than 8th vs 9th. One hastens to add that the 9th team, Swans, has had one of its worst seasons in its history. How could anyone think that the 1,278 attendance figure is great.

Perhaps someone can post the figures of the 2010, 2014 and 2015 Grand Finals.

I would also point out that S Coniglio was interviewed on a Fox Sports Channel as a result of his 4 goal perromance in the 2010 WAFL GF.

Wrong again! West Perth were part of a GF parade in 2003 or 04 I think it was. $ubi used to do their parade down the hallway to Neil Randalls office

Yes, it's sad to see the Wafl crowds diminish the way they have. With far less media exposure nowadays. Was driving home on Saturday afternoon with a 4 hour trip and did not hear one mention of Wafl on the radio. No progress scores, no scores or match reports on the so called radio news and it's like the Wafl didn't exist.
How is the so called media's ignorance helping?

What used to happen previously was the media was far better than nowadays. The newspapers even contained team posters of the 2 Grand Finalists. Why is that now a thing of the past! abc radio refuses to broadcast Wafl matches anymore which kills interest for rural people! Fairly sure no radio broadcast again this week either?!
It's enough to make one cry.
